I hate to sound like a broken record, but Free Republic has stood for the EFFECTIVE control of illegal immigration.
And it's quite possible for conservatives to have differing ideas on how to EFFECTIVELY control illegal immigration.
I think we need to all calm down, and remember some words from one of the great patriots of his time, Patrick Henry:
"No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the house. But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and, therefore, I hope it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen if, entertaining as I do opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve." This was the start of a speech he gave on March 23, 1775 - the one he ended with "give me liberty, or give me death!"
Just something I thought ought to be considered in this thread.
Patrick Henry also said "Give me liberty or give me death". He didn't say give me economic prosperity or give me the southwest.
Come into this country legally or don't bother. And if you're here illegally, then you have to go home. Period.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but Free Republic has stood for the EFFECTIVE control of illegal immigration.
At similar risk, let me put this to you again...
You believe that we can't effectively protect our borders now, thereby requiring us to Amnesty however many million Illegals you feel is necessary.
If we can't protect our borders now, how do you propose we will effectively protect our borders from the next wave of Illegals that your Amnesty will attract?
