People are this thread tend towards thinking the government is nuts. People on the other thread tend to think the mother is nuts. Fascinating.

It would be nice to have a few more facts. I don't think that the gubmint should be in the business of policing sunburns. I had a few beauts of sunburns when I was a kid, I don't attribute the cause to my mother's inattention. We didn't have access to sunblock back then. This is nannyism at its worst.

The sunburn was not particularly severe, said Keith Murdock, a spokesman for Trinity Medical CenterThis doesn't exactly smack of horrid danger. For God's sake, we all had sunburns at one time or another while growing up. Would I have put sunblock on my kids at that age if we were going to be out all day? Yes, but not doing it is hardly worthy of jail time. This is insanity.

See you all later. I got sunburned at the beach last week. I'm off to turn myself in.

Why not arrest the fair organizers for failure to provide more shade? Stands to reason if you hold a fair during the summer people will get sunburned? [SARCASM]
Seems kind of strange that the Sheriff made the arrest, is he seeking re-election soon? Three felony charges when a word of warning would have been better served.

I saw the Sheriffs interview on ABC News. One of the childs lung had collapsed because of crying due to the "sun-burn." The other twin could not stop crying. The older child had 2nd degree burns from the outing. The Sheriff did say that the woman should get probation not jail term. If one of the child dies, what do you suggest she get?
There are far too many "parents" out there who feel their obligation to their children is over once the child is born. After that, it's the survival of the fittest. I happen to believe that this "parent" needs a wake up call. If she's unable to care for the children put them up for adoption.

Yes indeed, and we need another thread linking the rising trend of skin cancer to the advent of topical application of sunblock chemicals.

At age 47....I am battling malignant melanoma...the most deadly form of skin cancer. I hope you win the battle. Best of luck and prayers. FreeGards.

Wishing you the best of luck in your battle with MM. I've been down the same road myself and it can be scary. Back in the 60's and 70's when I was growing up there was no sunscreen to use. Can't imagine why this mother couldn't tell her children's faces were blistering though.

This country is absoulutely nuts. The women should be with her children at the doctor not in jail. This country is nuts. Tis madness but there is method to it. The basic idea is the State will use any means neccesary to dominate and control its subjects. Children are de facto property of the State. Having kids just gives them another lever.
Don't like this? Get active and learn to shoot (just in case).

This statement seems to contradict the article, which quotes the caregiver as saying the sunburns were not particularly severe, and that they were treated and released. What gives?

All your children are belong to us!
Someone had to say it.

FROM THE ARTICLE: "2-year-old daughter and 10-month-old twin sons"
FROM YOUR POST: "kids do get sunburned even with layers of sunblock on them because kids will be kids and they will try best they can to hang in the good sun until they themselves can't take it any longer"
somehow, i don't think the kids mentioned in the article above had any control over getting themselves out of the sun (well, maybe the two year old)
