It is likely he just manifested a few demons. Deceived people think they run things. They don't. Those who yield to demons and their lies are controlled BY them. The rules are in the book and are applicable, even if one chooses to be an unbeliever.
Ro 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
