So the Today show is now giving lots of free publicity to a singer who glorifies the terrorists. That should make the relatives of the 9-11 victims happy. < /sarcasm>

That sure explains a lot.

And I never knew that and I don't think you could find one in 10,000 Americans that knew that. And that's why it's in the song."
I did happen to know this. I also happen to know that Islam simply copied Christianity and Judaism but with a few extra twists.

Steve Earle is the Michael Moore of country music - a mediocre talent, but a first-rate opportunist.

It's obvious what the
Today show people are thinking.
What I'm wondering is what the heck are its advertisers thinking?

....."and I saw a lot of that hate being directed at this kid." Adolph Hitler was a kid at one time.....too bad someone didn't stop him before he killed a few million of his countrymen.

The way I read the lyrics, the "glorification" is all in the speaker's mind. It's all from the speaker's point of view, and that first-person perspective (to this English teacher) is what makes it subjective, not objective.
If Steve Earle had intended to glorify terrorism, he could have picked a far clearer way to do it.

Earle, you former drug addict dipstick....Mohammed is a false prophet, Lindl is a traitor, and you are an air head no talent....the reason you don't get much air time is because you suck...nothing more complicated than that.

I got another one for you. I don't know if it was bias, but it sure seemed strange at the time...
We were scheduled to be at Weehawken Park on top of the Lincoln Tunnel with our US Flag Balloon around June 13th or so. We would be putting up the Flag Balloon and about 40 first responders from 9/11 would be there, the National Guard, a bag pipe band, fire trucks, & police cars, and the mayor of Weehawken. This was a tribute to the 1st responders of 9/11 and the people that they lost to the terrorists.
The Today Show contacted the promoter of the event and secured the exclusive for the Weehawken coverage. They sent a crew out the day before, they told us that Al Roker would be coming out and they would be doing a weather thing. At about 6:00 PM the night before, the promoter calls us and says the the Today Show cancelled because they were keeping the entire Today Show open for breaking news on the Elizabeth Smart case. At that point, it was too late for him to get any of the other shows out there. I thought well, if there is breaking news, why aren't they breaking it? Anyway, the day of the event, Al Roker was covering a golf tournament, and there was no breaking news on Elizabeth Smart.
The Today Show missed an incredible tribute, and all of the men and women that were there were so appreciative of the balloon. It was very touching. We took everyone up in the balloon and brought them down again. It was great to see so many of them almost brought to tears by the sight of the balloon right across the river from where the towers used to stand.
It was wierd to say the least. Maybe they kept the Elizabeth Smart breaking news for a slower news day.

Last Tuesday Joan Baez gave a concert here and sang an Earle song, a Tniisian and a Sumerian song. These folks are happily taking up the Islamist cause in America.
And a lot of the song is, is what I learned about Islam and, and this revelation of how ignorant we are all about Islam in this country, just from the research that I did trying to make the song work.
Do these so called idealogues really understand what would happen to them personally under an Islamist government. The would be in the square just like the Nigerian girl who is to be stoned to death for bearing an illigitimate child.

Well, my youngest son just turned 20, and I worry about him too. Considering the fact that he is in the U.S. military and could be going to a combat zone worries the hell out of me. My prayers go for him and all those others that serve in the military, especially in this time of war. This record sounds like it might make a good skeet target. PULL!!

Steve Earle burned out in his last heroin spree. He got off to a promising start but the drugs melted his mind.

A lot of you people need to get a grip.
Disclosure: Steve Earle is my favorite songwriter. He autographed my guitar, and I've driven hundreds of miles to see him live.
Disclosure: Steve is a whacko liberal. I agree with none of his politics.
One more: The Media Research Center is way off-base here.
Steve is not glorifying Lindh. He's on record as being anti-taliban. THIS SONG IS WRITTEN IN THE FIRST FRIGGIN' PERSON, PEOPLE!
Did Johnny Cash glorify murder? He must have, because he sang, "I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die."
Was Charlie Daniels advocating drug use when he sang, "I don't want much of nothin' at all, but I will take another toke"?
I'm continually amazed at the narrow-minded, simplistic view people take of this song. Yes, Earle's a lib, and yes, I disagree with every political stance he's ever stated. But why can you people not take what he says at face value: that is, (1)he tried to get into the head of a young man who made some very bad choices; and (2)the decisions Lindh made weren't made in a vaccuum.
My friends know that I'm a huge Steve Earle fan. Consequently, I was bombarded with e-mails when this controversy broke. I essentially told them what I've written here. My friends also know I'm an off-the-scale right winger (as Wyatt's Torch knows, too 8^)). Here's the last thing I tell them (and this is directed to the clown who called him a "mediocre talent"):
"Steve Earle describes himself as 'to the left of Mao.' Knowing that, and knowing me, what does that tell you about my opinion of him as an artist?"
