Black bear kills baby girl at vacation colony in N.Y.
A black bear snatched a 5-month-old girl from a stroller at an upstate New York bungalow colony yesterday afternoon and killed the baby while trying to drag her back into the woods from which the animal had just emerged, authorities said.

NOT A CHANCE!
Janine Motta, a spokeswoman for the New Jersey Animal Rights Alliance, called yesterday's death a tragedy, but said her group would continue to oppose a hunt.
The life of one kid isn't worth the lives of every bear in the whole d@mn state.
Yet we have people like Ivany making idiotic comments about bears subsisting on "acorns". Rubbish!! Acorns are merely one component in the diet of an omnivore who is great at its ecological profession - turning protein, fat and carbohydrate from any source into bear flesh!
What the statisticians in the New Jersey D.E.P. left OUT of their narrative was the fact that Jersey HAD a bear hunt until several years ago. Since then the bear population has been growing and getting bolder and more agressive.
Even in a state where they are normally hunted and retain some fear of humans, a tragedy like this happens. When those beaurocrats and politicians in Trenton face a tragedy like this in Jersey, which is increasingly inevitable, they wil be COMPELLED to use common sense instead of Disney Biology.
These people were not camping out in the wilds of Yellowstone, they were relaxing in a complex of vacation cottages that are as much "roughing it" as a condo in Orlando. It seems to me that these villages and townships need to staff rangers, "armed loaded for bear" to patrol these communities for dangerous wildlife (like in frontier days) and teaching the vacationers how to protect themselves by carefully disposing of garbage, not feeding the animals, go indoors and call ranger immediately if you see one, etc.
Whose beliefs would that be? From the context of the story I can only assume that you mean the people who believe that private citizens should not own or use firearms for their protection.
Stupid people.

Zulu...do you want to kill all the bears...seems like they would probably have to eventually since population keeps growing.
There is now a Mama bear, with 2 cubs, residing in their neighborhood-as discovered by an early morning jogger.
Answer: Integrate the bears into public schools and teach them self esteem.
Fines are stiff in the parks if food is left out, but people do it anyway, and there are only two cures for these marauders, relocation -- or killing.
Anyone who is caught contributing to the problem should pay into a fund to finance either solution. Everybody seems to think the rules apply to someone else, and frying bacon for breakfast seems to be a tradition on the last day in the woods.
I don't approach them. I don't feed them. I don't leave my dogs, cat or children out to tempt them.
And do you know what? We get along fine.
She left the child that smelled like food the most. It's a terrible event but the bear only smelled food.
