Scary stuff...and the attack on homeschooling will only grow as it continues to be a threat to the NEA's rather gay monopoly of public education. Band together, homeschooling families, and form legal defense groups!

Prepare for some major bloodletting. There is too much power for the state and teachers to risk losing here. I have always thought it is just a matter of time before the educrats declare total war on the homeschoolers, using every court, law, and school district they can. And homeschoolers WILL resist to the bitter end. I sometimes see a very nasty battle looming here - this might be the beginning of it.

How can it be made illegal? It's legal in every other state in the country. Why should CA be any different? i said that i don't think it will become illegal... i'm not worried at this time...

This kinda vaguely reminds me of when I started working for the huge telco back in 1989. Silly me, I thought they would be interested in my experiences with the little bitty telco in the town I came from that would dispatch a tech to your home within an hour of any trouble report. When I mentioned that maybe we should emulate the little guy's customer-oriented attitude, I just got a blank stare.
It seems to me that any organization would seek out those who excel in their field and attempt to emulate those who excell, rather than condemn them and try to shut them down.
But that's just me.

It all boils down to money and power. They need the money per student to maintain and increase their power to hire more teachers, administrators, aids, secretaries and the zillions of people making a living in connection with the public schools.
During boom years, these educrats will tolerate home schooling. During the bad/low budget years, they become less tolerant of home schooling.
So it will get really nasty as the adminstrators start to lose funding for their pet projects like trips to Vegas to pick the reading textbook for next year. They will look at every home schooled child as an enemy of their fascist state because they don't get the $'s day that child would generate if in one of their public schools.

The more greens we get to vote for the Green party, the better it is for Simon.

My daughter is entering kindergarten this fall and I don't even have to notify the school district that we are homeschooling instead. Probably about the easiest state for homeschooling. Too bad New Jersey isn't a good state to be a gunowner in.

That sounds wonderful. We're up in the eastern side of Somerset County. Like I said, still too urban!
The last time I went through inspection I expected no trouble - car was almost brand new. And after waiting forever, I had no trouble...til I realized my insurance card was expired and I had forgotten to put the new one in the glove box. Boy was I mad at myself.

I have been looking for a link to the argument against homeschooling. I can't seem to find anyone that will actually come out against it.
I know the state of Cal if pushing this thing, but who acutally has written something that says homeschooling is bad?

I know the state of Cal if pushing this thing, but who acutally has written something that says homeschooling is bad? In an earlier article posted here they were referring to Bush's No Child Left Behind deal as giving them this power. I haven't seen anything explicit from the homeschooling haters explaining what they are reading in the bill which would make homeschooling "outside the law".
It seems obvious that they are just blowing smoke and hoping that parents will get intimidated and enroll their kids in public schools.

I just came across this poll. Definately needs attention.
Should parents who home-school their children be required to have a teaching certificate?
- Yes. We must protect all school children, even those taught at home. 65%
- No. Home school kids consistently score higher. That's certification enough. 35%
Poll Link Here.
