FWIW, "Fear" in the sense of "God-fearing" means possessing a reverential awe of the Almighty.

The word is the same. By fearing God, you put a cap on your own reason. You submit fully to Him, losing any intellectual individuality. As Clarence Darrow wrote, "The fear of God is not the beginning of wisdom. The fear of God is the death of wisdom." Believe in Him if you want, but stay your own person and think for yourself.
