Because they don't let us burn them at the stake anymore, but you can see what actual Catholics are up against when this guy isn't suspended immediately or transferred to new parish duties in the Antarctic.

Agree. The Catholic Hierarchy has moaned too long that the paucity of priests drives their decisions to keep priests on when they are clearly heretical, felons or both (sort of go together, I guess). One priest, faithful to Christ and His Church is better than any number of unrepentent, soul thieves.

Thank you, Notwithstanding, for your good and accurate and honorable post. You're right. This priest needs correcting, immediately. I hope we're not treated to more of the Church's cowardice to proclaim its own doctrine.

Your argument can be rebutted only by rejecting the clear teachings of the Church. However, as the sexual scandals have shown, the teachings of the Church on sexual matters have been rejected by a significant number of liberal priests, and even conservative bishops have refused to disciplie even priests who openly reject these teachings. In effect, there is a schism in the Church.

As a Roman Catholic myself, I can tell you what my personal experiences are in the differences between Catholic and Roman Catholic.

Roman Catholic doctrine is very conservative, attempts to maintain the strictest possible interpretation of the bible (after innumerable years of study and debate of the Bible and other early religious writings), and is unyeilding year to year. The mass is patterned after the traditional mass in Rome.

Roman Catholics differ from "Americanized" Catholicism in that "Americanized" Catholicism is more open to interpretation (a.k.a. "more liberal").

In non-religious terms, if I went to a Roman Catholic Priest and confessed to some sin, the Priest would hear my confession, tell me why what I did was wrong, identify it as a sin, urge me to make right my wrong by taking responsibility for the sin or making restitution, give me pennance, and then lift my spirits with the hope of salvation.

If I went to an "Americanized" Catholic Priest, I would probably meet him in a "consultation room," we'd discuss the sin in general terms, he'd give me a much lighter pennance, and then we'd discuss counseling.

From my experience, it's the difference between having a father who wants to be your dad first, your friend second, and having a father who wants to be your friend first, dad second.

As for Christian, there are some Protestants who insist that Catholics are not Christian. We must be redundant, at times, just to get the point across. Their belief is utterly ridiculous, of course, but they're convinced we worship idols instead of recognizing Jesus as our Savior. I have no doubt we'll share a good laugh about it once we make it to Heaven.

"We have a powerful tool at our disposal and that is the power of prayer."

It's time to pray that God shows them the truth.

I read somewhere that if you measure the number of priests against the number of Catholics who acutally attend Mass, there is no real priest shortage.

"The concern has come from a mistaken notion that being pro-choice is equal to being pro-abortion. However, choice is part of the very foundation of our Catholic Christian Community."

INCREDIBLE! Right out of the liberals' playbook. No wonder Michigan is in such a mess! Much praise for the parishioners who protested. What circle of hell will this puke of a priest land in?

As a Catholic, I can say that the prayer argument is not working. We've been praying since 1973 and we still have abortion.

And we have priests who think that the choice to have an abortion is "The very foundation of our Catholic Christian Community."

there absolutely is a schism within the Church, and you're the first person I've seen say it, God bless you!
