The sides will be split between leftists aganist rightists

What about those that do not cast themselves in those narrow terms? Where are they while this war is raging? I am a “rightest” however I am also pretty happy with this country. There are major problems yes but as any form of government ages it starts to show its warts. The fact is that governments that allow the vote of the citizens will eventually end up in socialism. It will limp along until the point that the money runs out. It will have nothing to do with politics or ideology it will be the point that the takers so outnumber the givers that the givers join the takers and then the cycle will start over. Each generation that takes power has a choice and it is their choice alone. They either take the baton that the preceding generation passes or they decide they want to try something different.

Yes, all wars have their share of cowards, women, children, and elderly people. They would be victims of violence in cities, though.

The problem with our government is that it is gradually becoming more socialist, and the system is already showing signs of collapse. This country have non-replacement birthrate (except for immigrants, that is), and the fact which is that Generation X is smaller than Baby Boomers generation. That does not look good for the future, as our taxes will increase, all while we are losing our freedoms such as the right to bear arms. All while the country is becoming more like a country from the Balkans with our ever increasing number of immigrants, as the Anglos are not reproducing enough to maintain their numbers.

Also, it is not possible for us to reduce the socialist state as it is today. I'll tell you why. Baby boomers want their social security, immigrants want their welfare and health benefits, the rich liberals like to have control of the underclass by keeping them addicted to government handouts.

Nothing would change until the country is in obvious civil disorder with a significant event as a spark, (economic depression, Waco but 10 times the deaths, terrorist attack, who knows what?) then people will pick sides.
