A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 8/15/02

President Bush headed to South Dakota today to promote his economic and homeland security packages. In a speech in front of Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, Bush called for congress to act quickly on the proposed cabinet-level position of homeland defense. The President also stated that the current homeland package proposed from the Senate strips him of authority to exempt agencies from collective bargaining requirements if national security demands it. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I personally called and spoke to someone in RAcicot's office and said the same thing--answer back for every lie spoken and do it often and forcefully. Never let them define you. And I agree he was on H&C (that doofus Colmes is such a badgerer--is he a lawyer?) and now John Gibson. Yeah for us --I am sure we helped with that idea.

I made the same call -- I was told that Mr. Racicot was going to start racheting up his rhetoric/appearances now that we're nearing November and people are actually starting to pay attention!

providing SD farmers/ranchers with even more financial assistance

I would just like to clarify something here: in South Dakota there is a strong distinction between "farmer" and "rancher". Farmers drive tractors and plant crops. Ranchers raise livestock, usually commercial cattle. Farmers get the billions of dollars in the Farm Bill and ranchers get the shaft.

My parents are ranchers in western South Dakota, so far they have sold over half of their cattle because there is nothing to feed them. No grass, no hay, nothing. They will lose part of their income for the year, the IRS will audit them because they can't understand why they didn't make the same profit as last year, and they will probably pay a big fine (yes, this really has happened.)

Meanwhile, their neighbors the farmers will pull in the moolah from the government (one neighbor has received over $1 million in the last 4 years.) I'm not knocking the farmers, they are good people, they work hard and they have lost their crops too. It's just that the ranchers probably will not be included in this "financial assistance" nor are they asking for it. They just want some rain and a little hay.

Hey everybody, I have to change the subject for just a second. I was just over at Rush's website and saw that he had a caption that read "Be Like Dub" I've noticed that, more and more in the media, people are dropping the "ya" off the "Dubya". I've been doing it forever, since I'm too lazy to enunciate a two-syllable word if I have the option not to ;-) And I'm sure he's been referred to as "Dub" for a long, long time. It's just that this particular, abbreviated form of his nickname is really coming into vogue. I'm glad because I really like it (witness my screenname). Isn't that just like our free-enterprise culture to market everything from our cereal to our president? Groovy

Welcome fabriclady. Don't know that I have said that to you. Rintense and Kayak - well, I'd like to take credit, Kayak - but maybe it was somebody else who kept quoting that Reagan gem!

Oh sure, "W" is easier to write, but the exertion of forming three syllables is just too much for a nickname! LOL! Oh heck, it's a measure of your great devotion that you're willing to expend the energy in the name of nickname purity ;-)

Here is what I predict George W. Bush will do to counter the attacks from the RATS

1) GWB will remain silent as the RATS get more and more desperate as they try to smear him.

2) On Sept. 11th, 2002 we will be reminded of the attacks we suffered and once again the Nation will be grateful for GWB

3) GWB will take this opportunity to remind all of us of his promise to be a "Uniter, not a Divider" and he will show clips and quotes of the baseless attacks he had to endure while trying to rally the nation and the world to our side.

4) He will ask the viewing public... "Have I ever taken part in the politics of personal destruction?" "Have I not tried to change the tone in Washington?.... I am asking all Americans to support my administration by voting for candidates that support my vision for a safer and better America"

5) He will then show how the Senate led by Tom Daschle has been obstructing any and all bills passed the house for purely political reasons instead of the interest of the American people.

6) He will then AGAIN ask for all Americans to consider voting for candidates that will put the safety of America over their political asperations.

.

I sure hope my preictions will come true :-)

Rintense, the last pic in #12 makes me very happy. I always love seeing him in that limo and just so grateful that #42 doesn't get to ride around in it anymore. I always resented him being escorted but think #43 deserves it. I remember when they finally announced President Bush had won the election, one of the commentators said "he'll never have to open another door for himself." When I heard that remark, I thought,YES, and no one deserves it more.

Thanks for all the wonderful pics each night.

Hi! I posted this on The Guild, but FReeper Lorena thought that the Daily Dosers would get a kick out of it, too. My parents live in Rapid City, SD and were fortunate enough to attend the Presidents speech today. Here's a 2nd hand account for ya!

Okay, so I finally got a hold of my mom and dad to hear about thier day at Mt. Rushmore. Everyone got a bottle of water and a little American flag to wave. There were about 3000 people on hand and some were in bleacher types seats and others stood.

South Dakota Sen.'s Daschle and Johnson were there and when they were introduced they only got a smattering of polite applause except for one woman who was just spazzing out hooting and hollering for them. This is the best part though, I think they may have invited themselves, because there were no seats on the bleachers for them. They were just standing on the outside of the crowd. Rep. John Thune who is running for Johnsons senate seat and who introduced the President, had a seat on the bleachers with Tom Ridge, Gayle Norton, and the South Dakota Governer.

The President, as usual, made a great speech. My parents got there super early and ended up being about 50 feet from the stage. My mom said she thinks she got some great pictures and she's going to e-mail me them when she gets them back, so I will be sure to post the highlights when I get them! Gotta love that one hour photo developing!

They had to close this one main road near where Marine One was parked until it took off. Well, 3000 people were trying to get out of Mt. Rushmore and had to use that one road that was blocked so my parents decided to go back and have lunch (Mt. Rushmore has a great dining room!). So as they are sitting there having lunch, Tom Daschle comes into the dining room. Does he come in to press the flesh with the people of South Dakota who he is supposed to represent? Hhhhmmmmmm.......Let me think about that one....NO!!! He came in and headed straight for the area that was roped off where several journalists were having lunch, then he left. Rep. Thune was mobbed by people out on the main concourse. He was signing autographs, taking pictures with people, and shaking hands. In contrast, when Daschle and Johnson walked in the dining room, it was just like anyone else walked in. People hardly looked up.

They had a great time and said that even though they had to get up early and stand in the sun for a couple hours it was worth it and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Oh GREAT! Post #93 just reminded me of another name for our distinguished leader: "GWB"

As I've said from the beginning of my freeping experience, the possibilities are endless:
"W"
"Dubya"
"Dub"
"GWB"
"GW"
"G-Dubya"
"G-Dub"
Love ya, Dubya!
Dubya-licious! (argh! lol!)
Yabba Dubya Doo!
"How G-Dubya-dorable!"
Okay, I'll stop before the saccharin makes everyone nauseous. Too late!
