It destroys unprotected semiconductor junctions

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking more on the lines of what an EMP hit would do to the missile's electronics, or the electronics in a Command & Control station.

If these new GeeWhizz bombs are in good supply, it may be a real short conflict! Here's hoping!

Freegards!

Actually Saddam had lots of military hardware in mosques last time around. He figured that we would be reluctant to hit mosques because of bad press and alternately if we did hit one- BAD PRESS. Saddam is not a religious man, his sole religion is power. Mosques are not regarded by Moslems as holy places but more as schools for adults so stashing anthrax or rockets in a mosque does not bear the same onus for Moslems as the equivalent use of churches has for Christians. It is no sacrilege.

How do you know that this war is not already well advanced? Perhaps there wil be no big invasion. Perhaps > Saddam will die or disappear, taken out by locals trained by our SFs already in country and the population, with much assistance from judiciously placed cruise missiles and sniper rounds exes out the Republican Guard. > Turkey makes a sudden dive into Baghdad and finishes it all.

Our daily air strikes seem to be hitting more significant sites for the last few months for flimsier reasons. The Press is being kept awaw from the action that is now occurring so there are no big headlines, no video clips. Rather than an invasion force we may just need to send a small occupation force to keep order and to maintain some rein on the changes. With all the ominous storm clouds being fanned by official statements and unofficial leaks I suspect that the real thing will be a great surprise in the way it happens, or even a letdown as things just sort of crumble in Iraq.

It is hotter than hades in Iraq now. Fighting a war in the middle east in the summer would be dumber than the Germans trying to defeat the Russians during the winter deep in Russia.

I have been saying it will be during the winter. The heat is too hard on the troops and the equipment. We saw in Afghanistan, that British boots melted.

I just LOVE it when people posit opinions and then hide behind "this is what other nations will say!" Really I do.

But YOU said: "They are not at war with us." I have made the case that they are.

YOU said: "They have shown no open aggression on our forces." I have made the case that they have, consistently, and that refusing to admit it because of what the U.N. might think is Orwellian illogic.

YOU said that a nuclear response to a WMD attack by Iraq (by Israel, not us- I'm sure you're aware that that is the question at hand) would force "war with the whole world" on the U.S. Ridiculous.

You're of course free to believe Israel should lay back and take a WMD attack cheerfully without retaliation in kind. I disagree. But don't pretend you aren't regurgitating all the arguments against war with Iraq with the "mis-statements of fact" you've posted here.

"even resembles ol' Joe" He does! I have often been struck by the resemblance between Stalin and Sadamm Hussein. It starts - but doesn't end - with the moustache. Maybe there was something, after all, to that 19th century "phrenology" which claimed to read character in features and headshapes.

Sadaam Hussein used to be carelessly compared to Hitler, just because Hitler is the boogeyman of the 20th century, but he more closely resembles Stalin, especially in his use of terror to keep his immediate subordinates in control.

Meanwhile (grin!) Alouette has come up with some pictures that conclusively prove that the spiritual head of Hamas is the dead spit of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings.

Saruman, not Gandalf.

Here they are, the evil twins.

Message to nice Iraqis reading this board...

If I were you (and I'm not), I would take heed of the prior conduct of both Israel and the United States. It is better to lose ones property than to lose members of your families and your lives also. Flee while you have the chance.

I'm not joking or kidding either.

Its time to Bagdaddy. No playing around like Israel has with the rat, go right to the head of the snake, and cut it off ASAP. This Iraq "war" should be much more like Panama and Afghanistan, where are primary focus was capturing or killing the leader, and nothing like any conventional war, including the last war against them. Thats the beauty of fighting a dictator. Once you take him out, the fighting is over. The key here is making sure we get decent people to take over and run the country, who can control their lust for power, and actually "love their fellow countrymen as themselves.

The Republican Guard will be 3rd priority--1. Air defense and C&C,as you said.

2. Occupy, isolate, and destroy WMD
mfg and storage sites, throughout the country while Saddam and his buttboys
hole up in Baghdad. Unless they come out to fight, in which case we annihilate them.

3. Then we deal with Saddam at our convenience. No bloody urban assaults, no nukes. Post-Saddam core ready to be installed in power a la Karzai.

I agree but it certainly wouldn't be without any consulations with the US.. either giving us time to pull out.. or assuring that Saddam will be givin over to their forces to poke and prod at him for the rest of his life.. I'm sure if the war is days from over.. Saddam is in hand and they push off one missle into Israel there will be no relatation.

Again I'll have to request that you argue with at least a high school education before you assume what I meant or what I said.. you have completely misrepresented what I said and I just don't have the time to explain English to you.

Iraq kicking out weapons inspectors is 'old news'.

Saddam has learned will from Bill.

That's just about exactly the way I envision it. I suppose we should add SCUD sites to the #1 priority list to ensure that Saddam doesn't use any WMD's against Israel.
