FWIW, OPH, Don and I disagreed more than we ever agreed. My husband was a witness to some of our regular "screaming matches" over the telephone. But in the end, we always agreed to just disagree if we had to, for (believe it or not) we respected one another. He had his faults -- his sheer stubbornness, his intractibility when it came to questions of his deeply cherished principles -- and I would urge him to be less "doctrinaire" and more "realistic." He would not be the first person not to take my advice, and he's surely not gonna be the last one, either.
One of the most frustrating things about corresponding with some people around here is that people spend more time attributing motives to me than trying to analyze and understand what I actually wrote. As is clearly the case with CJ's statement that I "agreed [with Don] on a lot of his destructive, crackpot ideas...." CJ hasn't got a clue what I think (obviously); and has even less information regarding what Don thought. Same goes for OPH and others. We need much less heat, and much more light, around here, IMHO. There have been times when I've thought I'd stand a better chance of obbserving rational behavior if I were to look in a hen yard....
Perhaps you could point to my alleged quote.
