FAMILIES OF AMERICAN TERROR VICTIMS IN ISRAEL LASH OUT AT BUSH SNUB
Tue Aug 13 2002 20:25:00 ET
Distraught relatives of American students killed in a bomb attack at Israel's Hebrew University are furious they haven't heard from President Bush or anyone else at the White House, the WASHINGTON POST is planning to report on Wednesday, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
One sister of a bombing victim tells Lloyd Grove of the POST, according to insiders, how Sen. Ted Kennedy and Sen. Hillary Clinton have both reached out personally to express their condolences; while Bush has done nothing.
Another angry family member fumed in a fax to the president: "The 9 miners who were trapped underground for 72 hours were rescued... A few days later you went to their celebration party... My cousin was murdered and you didn't even make a phone call or write a letter to her family."
Bush did make several public statements expressing anger over the five American deaths.
Developing...
I am going to look for that.
Then you must have missed his comments on the killings. The tension in his face spoke of a taut and controlled anger. Bush is the best friend Israel has ever had and stuff like this does nobody any good.
Israel is a dangerous place and those that choose to be there are taking their lives in their hands. Israel is reponsible for their security, not President Bush.
This makes me feel pretty uncomfortable. Untold Americans die tragically every day. It is not the Presidents job to interject himself in each one.
That's not the point. These were not Israelis. There were AMERICANS dammit!
Bush missed a genuine Reagan-style "Challenger" moment to rally Americans together through a memorial service he attended personally.
Another example of a over-cautious, tone-deaf West Wing. Who is their Michael Deaver? Rove is pathetic enough with the "New Tone" crap, but to let genuine opportunities like this slip away is disgraceful.
This is the all-too-obvious reason for this story.
I guess the terorrists are winning. I recall Japan issued a warning to its citizens not to travel to USA after 9/11. Care to comment?
Israel is reponsible for their security, not President Bush.
What does this statement have to do with anything? Americans were murdered, period.
Let me break it down for this grieving family member. Pennsylvania is a battle-ground state and with a little union help, Bush may carry it in 2004. As much as I like it to be, the people of Israel do not vote in US elections.
Exactly. And more than likely if he had personally contacted them, the Post would have claimed he was pandering for the Jewish vote. There's no way Bush can win...not in the eyes of the liberals.

JERUSALEM - A personal, handwritten message of condolence from U.S. President George W. Bush ( news - web sites) was read out Wednesday at an emotional memorial ceremony for the seven people, including five Americans, who were killed in the bomb attack at Hebrew University.
"I send my heartfelt sympathy to those families who have been terrorized by the killers. I also mourn for the dead," Bush's message said. "We must not allow a few killers to halt the march to peace."
The message, read by the university president, ended by saying: "I will continue to work toward a vision of two states at peace. I will press on with our campaign against terror."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush ( news - web sites) said on Thursday he was "furious" over American deaths in a Palestinian bombing in Israel and officials announced the FBI ( news - web sites) was launching its own investigation of the attack.
"I'm just as angry as Israel is right now," Bush told reporters in the Oval Office as he met with Jordan's King Abdullah a day after a bombing at a Jerusalem university cafeteria killed seven people, including five Americans. "I'm furious that innocent life was lost. However, through my fury, even though I am mad, I still believe peace is possible."
This is NOT the Clinton administration where the president uses PERSONAL TRAGEDY to up his poll numbers. Sorry.
So, now they want individual letters as well? Weren't these complaining relatives at the memorial service?
Travel Warning (Updated December 7, 2001): The Department of State warns U.S. citizens to defer travel to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. Ongoing violence has caused numerous civilian deaths and injuries, including to some American tourists. The potential for further terrorist acts remains high. The situation in Gaza and the West Bank remains extremely volatile with continuing confrontations and clashes.
American citizens should limit travel to the Old City of Jerusalem to daylight hours, Saturday through Thursday. U.S. Government personnel in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza are under tight security controls, including prohibition of travel to the West Bank and Gaza. Occasionally, U.S. Government personnel are prohibited from traveling to sections of Jerusalem, including areas in both West and East Jerusalem, depending on current security conditions. Private Americans who remain in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza despite this warning should follow similar precautions and remain in close communication with the American Embassy in Tel Aviv and the American Consulate General in Jerusalem for more detailed information. American citizens residing in the West Bank and Gaza should consider relocating to a safe location.
American citizens in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza should also exercise extreme caution and avoid locations such as restaurants and cafes, shopping areas and malls, pedestrian zones, public buses and bus stops and the areas around them as well as crowds and demonstrations. Roads designed for Israeli settlers including in East Jerusalem have been the site of frequent shooting attacks and roadside explosives, sometimes resulting in death or injury. U.S. Embassy and Consulate employees and their families have been prohibited from using public buses throughout Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. Dual Palestinian American citizens may encounter difficulties departing the West Bank and Gaza during times of Israeli closures in those areas.
And once again I ask, were these people not in attendance at the memorial service, nor did they watch it on television, nor did they speak to anyone who WAS present?
Lloyd Grove strikes again. We really need to make a file on him.
