The Jews' rebellions against the Romans were fought in their capacity as an ethnicaly homogenous nation-state, not as a religion. Of course it is theoretically possible to destroy a religion - just ask all the followers of Zeus. But its an absurdity in the modern world.

Total war implies the total dedication of US industry and manpower. That is neither necessary, nor what you seem to be calling for. You seem simply to be asking for the systematic extermination of Muslims. If that's all you want, you might try studying the proceedings of the Wansee Conference for historical precedent.
I used to call Muslims as a class Klingons. Out of respect for the Klingon people, I've stopped doing so.
