Reagan Nearing the End

Ronald Reagan's condition is worsening and his friends have told the New York Daily News that he "is steadily slipping in his terminal battle with Alzheimer's disease."

"He's bedridden and helpless," his son, famed radio talk show host Michael told NewsMax.com recently. According to the News, the 91-year-old beloved former president's mental deterioration has increased over the past months. "He no longer knows who Nancy is," one source, referring to Reagan's wife of 50 years, told the News. "Some days he seems to recognize her as someone who's familiar, but most of the time she's just a blank to him." "He's becoming more difficult to deal with," a source close to the family confided to the News. "Both his physical and his mental problems have gotten worse."

The News said that a former Reagan aide confirmed the sad news which was revealed even as an old Reagan friend, Charlton Heston was revealing that he too suffers from the early symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

"Our family knows all too well the cruelty of this disease, and we pray that God will give the Heston family, especially [Heston's wife] Lydia, . . . the strength to face each day that lies ahead," Nancy Reagan said in a statement released to the media.

My first election to vote in, and I picked RWR all on my own.

Me too. Godspeed Ronald Reagan.

It happens that I visited the Reagan Library this Sunday, on some time off I had from business in LA. I recommend it: lots of reminders of what life was like not just during the Reagan administration, but as we were growing up years before. It was Reagan's speech for Barry Goldwater that started the conservative movement we know today.

The Library has apparently acquired the old Air Force One, the 707, and will set it up in its own building on the site by 2004.

I prayed for 8 years that President Reagan would hang on till after Bill Clinton left office so that a Republican president would be in charge of honoring him.

Anyone else remember Nixon's funeral? All living presidents were there, so I suspect the same tradition will be followed this time. It was sickening to hear Bill Clinton's fawning eulogy, to watch him and Hillary "act" as if they really admired President Nixon.

When President Reagan is laid to rest, I wish Nancy would refuse to admit any democrat who had maligned her beloved Ronnie. No republican is more hated by democrats than Ronald Reagan, no republican has been more unfairly criticized. Don't let democrats horn in on this historic occasion. Keep the bastards away, and let only those who respected him, pay their respects, along with the nation, who loved him.

Imagine Bill Clinton's secret envy. Ronald Reagan, well loved, well admired, by a grateful nation. He will get the funeral he deserves, President Bush will see to it.

Didn't Genesis (the rock band) have a video back in the 80's that showed Ronald Reagan as Rambo, bandolier and all? I'm sure they didn't mean it to be so, but I always thought that to be a positive image!

How about this?

$20? Sounds good, as that replaces Jackson who was at least a Democrat.

Trouble is, you got to like Jackson: "The Union: It must be preserved."

"President Ronald Reagan should replace Alexander Hamilton on our $10. "

Agreed. He is far above a coin. His picture needs to be on something that is in everyones pocket regularly.

It is one of the most actively used bills, just my thoughts. Good ol' 6x was great for so many reasons but, in the 'Moving On' department, change is okay with me.

Actually, I'd like to see him on the dime, and the Ten Dollar Bill. Just Like Washington and Lincoln, one coin, one bill.

Old Alex, time to go. FDR, 57 plus years is long enough for you.

I have to admit I really don't like stories like this. The reason is, they tend to crop up every few months or so regarding the same people (the pope is an example -- how many times has he been said to be near the end?).

Reagan was a great man and a great president, and I wish he and his family weren't suffering right now. Perhaps what I really mean is, I wish the Lord would just take him instead of letting him go on.
