The soon-to-retire Texan, a former economics professor, has combined a folksy charm with a consistent and passionate defense of tax cuts and limited government.
In 1994, he was a chief architect of the Contract With America, which helped Republicans win control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years.

What I posted was "If you seriously consider President Bush to be in any way equivalent to Stalin or Hitler" THEN you were in that guy's class. Since you evaluate this as SAYING you were in that class, then it is logical to conclude that you do believe that the President is equivalent to Hitler and Stalin. This being the case, you would clearly be in the same tin-foil hat, nut-case class as that former poster.
You know how these guys argue, dennnisw, they can't be anti-semitic because they love arabs, and arabs are semitic. The fact that this ignores the clear historical meaning of the coined term 'anti-semitic' cuts no ice with them.
On the contrary: it is a CENTRAL issue. All you cowards afraid of actually FIGHTING a war are more than happy to send someone else off to do the killing and dying.
A lot of your "pacifist" buddies at LF never were military either.
"Pacifists" (as you incorrectly call them) are not the ones calling for war, so their lack of military service is not a contradiction. In your case, however, it is a contradiction. You bluster about "taking Mecca" etc., but while the fighting and dying are being done, you will be sitting on your lazy ass with the air conditioning on.
And by the way, you are full of sh!t about what I post. I have never posted anything remotely anti-semitic. I am not in favor of US aid to any foreign country -- including Israel AND Egypt AND the Palestinian Authority. I have been completely consistent in my posts on the Middle East. I don't think we should give the Israelis any money and I DON'T THINK we should tell them how to run their internal affairs either -- that means no mealy-mouthed Bush and Powell whining about how they choose to police their own sovereign country. It is a completely consistent position. So there! Take your "anti-semitism" and shove it up your rear.
OK...and I said that exactly when? Do you have any reading comprehension? I thought this was going to be a civilized exchange with you, but I guess you are just not capable of it.
Hhahahahhaha.... Sure Julius. And we use very little air conditioning here. You are the coward who is afraid to take out an Islamic nuclear threat (Iraq) before it matures. Please notice there is no draft today. We have a professional army. We make war from above and do our best to minimize our casualties.
You are lost in the past bonzo!
You seem kinda touchy about that. I must have hit a nerve.
You don't know much about the Middle East, do you? Or are you just purposely lying here? Iraq is most certainly NOT an "Islamic" country in the sense you are using it. It is a strictly secular dictatorship (here's a hint: that's why Saddam and his men don't wear rags and stuff on their head). The only Islamists in Iraq are the Shi'ites in the south who will actually wind up running the place when you and Perle and the lunatics have their way -- then it will be an Islamic dictatorship. It seems that is what you people want. But at least you should not lie about it.
And as far as nuclear -- well not even the hardest war-hawk (or should I say "chicken hawk") claims that Iraq has nuclear capabilities. But...hey: go ahead and ignore bona fide radical Islamist nuclear countries like Pakistan. You are either seriously lacking in knowledge or are purposely aiming to decieve.
And you are the brave man who uses other people's lives to do your fighting.
As you may notice, I never said you said that -- I said IF you meant that. You seem to have as much trouble with the word 'if' that X-42 had with the word 'is'. My proposing that as a possible opinion on your part was quite reasonable, seeing that you had posted that my belief in the Bush administration in this instance meant that I would have been happy in the regimes of Hitler and Stalin, a position you repeated in a later post.
I see you are still distorting the truth, since what those calling for Saddam's ouster state is that they do not have PROOF that Iraq has nuclear capabilities, but that they do have proof that he is trying to develop such capabilities. They do state that it is possible that he has such weapons.
Of course why should anyone take seriously arguments from someone who believes that decisions on matters of war and peace should only be made by military veterans, a small and declining portion of our population. Starship Troopers is not a description of our Constitution, nor do will live in a military dictatorship!
The general theory is that, as a fairly libertarian Republican, he tends to lean against military intervention, and that, since he is retiring, he does not have to hide his convictions on these matters from his colleagues, which would have hurt his leadership position in the GOP if he had spoken out earlier.
That's pretty rich talk for someone too afraid to put on a military uniform and defend his country! What a laugh! You're the guy at the bar who slinks out and lets the other guy do your fighting for you, while you jeer on the other guy from safely out of the way! What a riot!
Then you should refuse help from the police next time your family is in danger.
We have a professional army you fool. For better or worse there is no draft
You are just a coward who is afraid to see America engage this world and use it's military might. Maybe your gasoline price will go up for a few weeks. Oh, the horrors.
Better we take on Iraq now and deal with the problem now. Cowardly libertarians are of no consequence
What's this "we"? YOU won't be taking on anyone. You'll be safe in your little home while the others are dying for their country. So...easy for you to play the cheerleader with someone else's life, while all the time thinking you are too good to actually put your own on the line for something you believe so strongly in. And you call everyone else "coward."
