"Perhaps you can explain to me why Microsoft won't let OEMs sell any dual-boot PCs? Is that also a perceived piracy threat? "

Would you want your competitor's OS next to yours? Actually, the real problem is support. Do you realize the millions spent on customer support by Microsoft where the question is not about a Microsoft product? Even an answer such as, "Call RedHat, you have Linux.", costs money. Dual boot machines usually have far more problems than single OS machines, and for a variety of reasons. Simply put: Microsoft doesn't want to pay for problems resulting from competitor software being loaded with Microsoft software. (OK, throw out the obvious joke, "That's because Microsoft products have enough problems of their own!" HA! Beat ya to it!)

Let me go back to the Kenworth post I made.

I can walk into ANY KW shop in the country tell them I need my truck worked on and it DOESN'T matter which Motor it has.

As a Mechanic I can work on a Cat just as easily as I can work on a Cummins, or a Detriot.

Kenworth has mechanics that may just work one model of motor, but if you have a problem they can fix it.

Actually, the real problem is support.

As I have always posted before, if Ford can support at least 5 different motors, then why can't Dell support 2 or 3 different OS's??

I didn't tell you that in these 5 trucks were 4 different brands of Transmissions, and 3 different Brands of Rearends.

But I guess when you do business with a Monopoly you have to do business their way.

Ford doesn't have that problem!!!
