Yes there was. Lincoln's message to Pickens left out one glaring part of the order to Fox and others - use force to overcome any resistence.

That was clearly covered by the wording of the President's message.

You are pitiful.

The leaders of the so-called CSA were under no illusions what the president meant.

"I am directed by the president of the United States to notify you to expect an attempt will be made to supply Fort Sumter with provisions only; and that, if such attempt be not resisted, no effort to throw in men, arms or ammunition will be made without further notice, or in case of attack upon the fort."

When I have some more time, I will show you for up some more the lying cretin you are.

Lincoln was ready to return force for force. And he was forced to, and guess how that came out?

Walt

That was clearly covered by the wording of the President's message.

WHERE? The only thing it says is the passive announcement "if such attempt be not resisted" and nothing else. There's no "we'll fight our way in if you try to stop us," no "we're bringing troops as well," nothing even remotely suggesting any of this. It is there however in Lincoln's orders to his military commanders.

The leaders of the so-called CSA were under no illusions what the president meant.

I don't assert that they were, and in fact their knowledge of Lincoln's true intentions led them to move on Sumter to preempt his arrival. That does not change the fact though that Lincoln tried to decieve.

When I have some more time, I will show you for up some more the lying cretin you are.

Try it if you will as I have been perfectly honest about this matter. The only liar who will emerge is the normal culprit. That means you, Walt. Lincoln was ready to return force for force.

And instigate it when it suited him.

And he was forced to

There you go again - back to your "the south made him do it" argument. It's a shallow attempt to avoid RESPONSIBILITY for any wrongdoing on Lincoln's part, but then again I guess it's also all you've got.
