Yes, I typically use well accepted sources that are available to anyone.

Uh, Walt - Since when is the NATIONAL ARCHIVES not a well accepted and available source?

You won't adhere to the same standard.

To the contrary. Giving actual documents themselves is a far higher standard than snipping a quote out of a dubious historical account from the likes of McPherson.

Often as not, I quote the historical record -- the people of the day.

Sometimes you do, but more often than not you quote things that that (a) you do not understand, (b) do not prove what you assert them to prove, or (c) represent only a carefully selected portion of the historical record.

That us something you flatly refuse to do.

And exactly where did I do that, Walt? Substantiate your accusations, or else don't make them in the first place.

Citing sources that only you have access to is simply not acceptable.

Uh, Walt - Did the National Archives BAN YOU or something? Otherwise my source is just as accessable to you as it is to myself or anybody else here.

I don't have this North/South magazine.

And I don't have McPherson's book. Does that mean I can declare your spews of McPherson quotes false?

I don't know where to get it.

You could start with your local public library. If that doesn't work you can order it from them direct - http://www.northandsouthmagazine.com/

I can't -- no one can -- check your sources.

Unless everyone else around here has been banned from using the National Archives like you, that is simply not the case. And if it were, nothing's to stop them from getting North & South magazine.

Honestly, I find it curious that you DON'T get North & South magazine and appear to have never heard of it. Your hero James McPherson writes articles for it from time to time, you know. One would expect somebody as interested in the subject of the war as you to have at least seen a copy of it or know where to find one...or is your self-asserted expertise on the war another of your lies?

And while we're on the subject, allow me to ask you about another thing that provokes my curiosity - What exactly did you do that caused the National Archives to ban you?

If it appears in the national archives, it appears somewhere else too. If it is online at the NA, post the link; otherwise you need to provide something that I can verify, as I am not going to be at the national archives anytime soon.

Stand Watie used to say his source was the NA all the time. Of couse that is very convenient, as people outside D.C. might not be able to run by and check your posts. You're not Stand Watie are you? Maybe using a spell checker once in a while and posting as GOPcapital?
