August 9, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - New Jersey Sen. Bob Torricelli's re-election bid has been hurt by an ethics ruling last week that "severely admonished" him - and he's now tied with little-known GOP challenger Doug Forrester.

Forrester and Democrat Torricelli each get 37 percent in the new Quinnipiac University poll - a big swing from Torch's 12-point lead on June 19.

Don't even give this one a chance. Remember the blatant corruption with Carrahan keeping the polls open until the inner city "constituents" could get her enough "votes" to outst Ashcroft?

It'll be the same here. No GOP struggle at all. No chance at all.

I love optimistic people. Even when a FREAKIN' poll says it is even, the gloomsters here whine "The GOP will blow it."

You can't win with people like you on our side. If you had been at Jericho, you would have said, "well, we walked around the city 11 times and nothing has happened. We need to go."

Forrester's part of the new wave of Republican candidates. He's direct and does very well on the tube. I'm very positive about November 2002. People are out of a very large loop if they aren't aware of the current conservative movement.

I hear that even Tom Daschle is getting worn out as he sees his numbers tank. He may actually retire. He certainly doesn't need the cash since his wife has made millions for him to retire on so he can write his memoirs for the clearance section of Borders.

Guys like Forrester who are somewhat younger and are not rinos are attracting voters.

I don't know how NJ elections are held however. Torch could cheat but count on Forrester to ask for an investigation if he does and Doug has grounds. The Torch already impuned his own integrity and probably belongs in jail. FV

Democrats in Maryland used the racism bomb a few days before the last Gov. election. When they were faced with a
GOP candidate that may have ousted the Democrat Paris Glendening they leaked the " she is a racist"bomb and it was over for Ellen Sauerbrey . I expect similiar tactics just before the NJ election. Democrats will do anything to keep this Democrat seat. That included keeping someone
like Little Bobby Torricelli. He is exactly what should not be in public office.

I agree with Rush's theory that Democrats will pull out the stops to get Torch re-elected. Then they'll release his testimony, cite new evidence of wrong-doing, throw him overboard and get Gov. McGreevey to appoint an equally liberal replacement to serve out his term.

Joyful1 is most likely the type of person who doesn't even bother to vote. No worries.

I challenge all Freepers who recognize Torch as the foe of liberty he is to visit Forrester's web site and donate $10. A tight race like this will be decided in the final weeks on the basis of who spends the most money on advertising. Forrester needs all the financial help he can get.

How can somebody who's "little known" have 37% of the vote?

Glad to see someone who is upbeat. I hope you are right. Many of us discout any state other than our own with the view that "they can't possibly be conservative."

An incumbent whose in a dead heat with their opponent is good news. It has to translate into votes though. And factor in if anybody's going to cheat for the Torch. Americans are sick of scandals though, IMO. Of any variety. FV

An incumbent below 50 percent in the polls is in trouble. It looks as if the Torch is in deep trouble.

I still wonder why the DemocRATs bothered to preserve Torch. If he had been expelled or forced to resign, McGreevey could have picked a substitute untainted by scandal. New Jersey being what it now is, an unknown and untainted DemocRAT would have been a heavy favorite against the equally unknown Forrester.

So what were they thinking of? Especially when the contrast with the treatment of Trafficant is so glaringly obvious.
