The incredible minds of FreeRepublic

Posted on 08/08/2002 5:48:46 PM PDT by rintense

Since there aren't any photos today, I thought we could try something new. Instead of posting your favorite photos, let's have a friendly debate (and I mean friendly, damn it!)

Tonight's topic: Media stories about Iraq: Pentagon plants or True stories. Discuss.

RULES: 1. Be respectful of others' opinions.
2. If you use sources, please cite them.
3. No flaming!
4. See rule 1.

I know, it's only one House Seat, but it's important that Chip retain that seat.

Yes, ALL the house seats are important!

Does this mean they purposely plant "disinformation" and if it's leaked, they know who's leaking because of who it was given to?

That might be a secondary benefit, but Rummy first said that it was so that Saddam wouldn't have a clue as to what they really intended to do.
BTW, his "disinformation" campaign was thoroughly criticized, so he isn't doing it. These "leaks" are not his doing. :-)

Whatever happens, regarding iraq, and whenever it happens, one thing I am sure of is that President Bush and Rumsfeld, will again use the media's stupidity against Iraq. It is no secret that the media lacks any virtue of common sense, and if they could, they would have cameras and a news anchor set up at the invasion point. It is my opinion that the battles will take place more in the cities, like bagdad, then the desert, and most of the troops used will be special forces. The air campaign will be devastating, as our bomb technology has vastly improved since desert storm, including the bunker busters and the fuel air bombs. I expect that it will be a cake walk.

Rintense, I signed off and thought about all the buzz about what President Bush might or might not do concerning Iraq. I offered my prediction for the "Butcher of Baghdad" earlier tonight and I need to add something else...

No matter what decision is made concerning Iraq, weather it's to go to war,or sit and wait for Saddam to be overthrown. I'm confident we have a President who will carefully consider all the options and make the right decision that best protects all of us and our national security.

The Press has been making a big deal of this and all the talking heads have been offering their best guess on what will happen. My money is on George W. Bush to do the right thing and it will be a complete success. Anyone who thinks this administration isn't up for this challenge must not know much about who's in it. GWB probably assembled the best cabinet this country has ever seen. They are professional and they're very experienced in dealing with any challenge that faces them. I sleep well knowing that we have a Commander-in-Chief who will keep the our best interest in mind and not his own.

So whatever happens with this issue on Iraq, I know President Bush will make the right decision. The Press have been taking shots in the dark since day one and considering the importance of this issue, All the information leaked to the NYT's is not by accident. This will be another mis-underestimation of just how well this administration can strum the media like a cheap guitar :-)

Hi everybody. Interesting discussion this evening. I am also someone of the mind that 9/12 would be an appropriate time to invade Iraq. 9/11 is evidently going to be a big day of memorials and news coverage. I think it's important to not invade on 9/11, because everyone in this country--everyone in the world--needs to watch the memorials, replaying of the terrorist attacks, etc. all day long, again without the distraction of other world events. The timing of an invasion on 9/12 would be like the government saying to our 'allies' (and even to many in this country) "Remember that? THAT was why we have to do what we're doing today."
