Turkish Claws on Northern Iraq

The countdown is on for the US attack on Iraq. Turkey has taken position in Northern Iraq in a blitz.

As concerns of an imminent US attack on Iraq grow day by day, Turkey has secured the Critical Bamerni airport in Northern Iraq.

Operational

Turkey has sent heavy machinery and electronic support equipment to the airport along with military and civil personnel who have made the airport available for military use in short order. Ankara, thereby, made it impossible for any other to strategically control the oil rich regions of Mosul and Kirkuk. Turkey has, additionally, established a umber of security checkpoints in northern Iraq.

Talabani explains

This surprize development was reported by PUK leader Celal Talabani, who had been in Ankara on 8/7.

Reports of 5000 Soldiers

The security apparatus inside Iraq was expanded to include a number of forward bases. According to unofficial sources, Turkey has about 5000 soldiers in the region.

Another unofficial report suggests that there are a few Americans who come and go to the Airport.

Well, actually Saddam feels that the Turks are almost as good as he is at oppressing the Kurds. If he can't do it himself, he'd rather somebody else do it and the Turks are OK.

Not so long ago-it's been less than ninety years, people are still living in "Iraq" who were born Turkish, and it was part of Turkey for 800+ years.

Dividing Ottoman Arabia among European states was a mistake, and we should undo it ASAP.

For good old fashioned infantry and artilary, the turks are second only to the russians. I think the turks (and the russians) are actually superior to america in this regard. We no longer have the spitting, snarling, men-of-iron, hordes of trigger pullers and grenade throwers that we used to. THe turks and the russians do.

Can never be sure, but this is an unusual development along with the huge U.S. airbase under construction in Qatar that is almost complete. Who needs Saudi Arabia huh? I just think that when Saddam Insane is finally gone, it's going to be amazing all the WoMD that they will find hidden.

Man, I hope so.

9/11 offered Bush the opportunity to remake the world. The dissolution of the post-Sevres Arab petty despotisms and the reconstruction of Ottoman Arabia along modern lines, under joint American (economic/political) and Turkish (religious) supervision, should do the trick.

Not all of it, but I think they did rule parts of it. I'm pretty sure the turks controlled the region between the tigris and the euphrates.

If I remember correctly, the turks ruled all the highly populated regions at that time...which of course wasn't all that much compared to the population densities of today.
