California: Budget woes hit new low: No votes

California's budget standoff hit new lows Monday night when a proposed spending plan received zero votes.

The alternative plan was designed to turn the tables on dissident Republicans who have balked at the Democrats' $99 billion plan.

For weeks, Assembly Republican leaders have sought to kill $3.7 billion in proposed tax increases. They have pushed for spending cuts, not revenue enhancements, to fill gaping holes in the state's budget.

Amazing how politicians (supposed conservative ones) STILL think that MORE MONEY is the answer to the public education fiasco.

Democrats argued that Republicans' no-new-taxes demand would force a $1.5 billion cut in school spending. Republicans countered that they have no intention of hurting schools.

Well, they ought to. Last I heard out of the $30 billion education budget, $10 billion never leaves Sacramento...and can't be fully accounted for. A 50% budget cut for the educrats is long overdue.
