The character that Mel Gibson (sighhhhhhhh) played in the Patriot, is a mixture of three very real people. The only name that I remember is of course, the SwampFox, all were South Carolinians. All well respected members of their commmunities. The Battle of Cowpens, South Carolina was a turning point in the battle for freedom.
General Morgan was able break Bloody Tarleton at this battle. Here is a link to a history of the battles at Kings Mountain and Cowpens. Both of which led to the demise of the British rule in this country.
