Why a combat jump? As a former airborne Marine I do not see the advantages of jumping into Afghanistan besides the element of surprise. IMHO a MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit) is more capable and better armed than the paratroopers. I think that the Army is just looking for some of their top brass to get combat jump stars on their wings. I wish them all good luck and that they keep up the good work.

I don't think it said they would parachute into Afghanistan. Relating that info that just jazzes up the article a bit.

Combat Jump wings for Army Top Brass?

The Army is so busy contracting out its Officer and Inlisted training that the top brass probably don't have time to get combat jumps. They probably will achieve it through Distance Learning.

This is not a slam on the American Soldier but a slam upon the Good Old Boy system of retired Generals and Colonels who are taking up contract positions provided for them as reward for their channeling money to contractors while they were on active duty. The old Golden Parachute routine. The contrac company owners are, of course retired Generals as well. This has nothing to do with improving training or getting the job done at lower cost. It has every thing to do with pumping millions to the OBC. Of course, none dare call it treason.
