On Dec. 6, 1941, World War II was already in full swing. As with the Japanese airstrikes on Pearl Harbor, the Sept. 11 attack brought Americans into a pitched battle over the future of Western civilization--one that the U.S. had ignored for too long.

No, Kasparov is not an American citizen. He was born in Baku, Soviet Azerbijan to ethnic Armentian and Jewish parents. His birth name was Garri Wainsthein.

Although many ex-Soviet players have come to the United States, Kasparov has remained a Russian citizen. He, in fact, is very much a cosmopolitan. It is claimed he is fluent in over a dozen languages.

And both of them are Jewish... so what is stronger, blood or convictions?

Blood supplies oxygen essential for cell metabolism.

This is from one of the best minds in the World who can count moves way up ahead:

No shield, no airport checks, no intelligence budget will be sufficient if militant Islam retains its foothold, its access to cash, training and propaganda. It is easier and cheaper to execute a terrorist attack than it is to prevent one: The price of a successful attack against America may be $10 million or less; the price to America would be many times that. Time and expense work in favor of terrorists, so the longer it takes to root out terrorists, the greater the likelihood of another attack on American soil.

If the war on terror is to be won swiftly, Mr. Bush must not lose sight of the war's twin imperatives: a decisive counterattack and a total unwillingness to appease our enemies.

Offense is the best defense. Mideast as we know was a miscarriage of the World War I. It is time to correct mistakes of the Britts in keeping questionable allies and drawing dubious borders. We have a benefit of hindsight and knowing of what did not work. Time to make them straight.

Those who instigated the current war must remember that Coventry and Pearl Harbor backfired on Dresden and Hiroshima.

Word to the wise, "moderate muslims": get control of your radicals, or you will go down in flames with them.

I wonder what his measured IQ is. I'll bet it's off the chart.

Kasparov has made a very public point of residing in Russia even during the hard years and is something of Russian patriot.

This is all very well and good, but what would Kasparov do if confronted by a Falkbeer Counter Gambit?

the Brazilian Defense?

Boy, you learn something new on FR every day! I was surprised to find that 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Qe7 has actually been played at grandmaster level. (Chessbase calls it "Latvian and Elephant Gambits", LOL!)

However, the Falkbeer countergambit starts 1. e4 e5 2. f4 d5, i.e. it's already a defense; the two have nothing to do with each other.

By the way, are any Freepers up to playing a couple of 3-minute chess games at www.kasparovchess.com ?

Send me FReepmail if you're interested, and we can arrange the details then!

I don't know about Kasparov's I.Q. It is said that Fischer was over 160 (genius level) and that he had nearly perfect recall. Quite a few masters have been medical doctors, lawyers, businessmen, psychologists, and so on. Others have been criminals. And a few have gone quite insane.

Chessbase shows nine games where Black has an ELO rating of 2400 or higher.

Aggregate score: White four wins, Black five wins!

Thanks for the post!

If chess players read this or people who'd like to debate chess players :-). I'm asking for help at :

pacific-mall.com/chess

It's easy to register there and right now all the play is correspondence so you have all day to think of your move :-)

There is a message board there and the political discussions are hot and heavy. Right now I am the only conservative and there are three far left-wingers who claim to be moderates. Sheesh. It would be fabulous for a Freeper or two to join me there. Here's a link to the message board, just scroll down to "politics"

message board

Thanks for your help. Gary Kasparov would appreciate it and so will I :-) Let's Freep this chess site/message board...

Chessmasters usually make too much sense. Very good analysis ! Yes its true that the 'allies' are slow to recognize the immediate threat, I think its more appropiate to compare our situation to what happened after World War II ended. At that point in time, the US was the lone nuclear super power and the Russians were about to become nuclear capable. This compares to the current situation where radical muslim states are on the verge of becomming nuclear capable. While the powerful non-muslim states are already nuclear capable. Pakistan of course is the first 'moderate' muslim state to acquire nukes. Saudi Arabia may be on the verge given their almost unlimited capital capabilities. Iraq and Iran of course are just a few years away. What happens if Egypt, Sudan and Indonesia acquire nukes ? If we sit on our hands and allow these nations to become nuclear capable, we are entering another cold war type 'MAD' standoff. However, the radical muslim states will not be detered by a counter attack. They welcome martydom. We cannot allow terrorist who may enjoy the madness within the MAD principal to have a seat at the nuclear chess board.

Clearly, the source of power for the Muslim states in question must be removed. Their oil resources must be taken away from them and their militaries must be conquered.

And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism.

OK, G.W. when do we start bombing Saudi Arabia ?
