Governor Bush testing out a flight simulator at the Farnsborough Aviation Show on his recent trade mission to England.

"Relax, Governor, sir, it's just a flight simulator, we're not actually taking off..."

MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR JEB BUSH

This week, I led a seven-day trade mission overseas to Florida's eighth largest trading partner and fourth largest foreign investor - the United Kingdom (U.K.). 125 of Florida's business and economic development leaders participated in this "Team Florida" mission to promote Florida exports, encourage greater foreign investment in the Sunshine State, and emphasize our strategic geographic location as the Gateway of the Americas.

On Monday, I officially opened the Florida Pavilion at Farnborough International 2002, Europe's second largest aviation and aerospace trade show. At the 2000 biannual show, Florida companies walked away with $29 million in expected sales and $11.5 million in distribution agreements. Our meetings with European companies at this year's show went very well, and I expect future business relationships to grow because of our attendance.

On Wednesday, I joined representatives from Florida-based Citrix Systems, Inc. at the grand opening of the company's Northern European headquarters in Buckinghamshire. As a leading global technology company, Citrix is doing much to further the spirit of innovation that exists in Europe and in Florida. This headquarters will help to continue Florida's influence as a major player in the global economy.

Finally in London, I joined educators from the University of Miami and Britain's Cardiff University to announce a strategic partnership between these two prestigious institutions. This partnership will serve to promote joint research on engineering and information technology projects, joint grants, research faculty exchanges and student exchanges.

Thanks so much for your continued support.

Sincerely, Jeb Bush

Friends, I don't know if Vice President Cheney has a pet or not.

On the other hand, who doesn't know about Spot Fletcher Bush and Barney Bush?

Here's Spotty! He was born in the White House in 1989.

A rare photo of Barney Bush. Maybe he's getting too big to carry.

Heres's an education message from Governor Bush. Please ping your pals with your retrofitted supercomputer. LOL

MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR BUSH August 9, 2002

This week, I joined students, parents and teachers in two Florida cities to welcome the new school year. On Monday, I attended the grand opening of the new P.M. Wells Elementary school in Kissimmee. Also in attendance were teachers and students from nearby Partin Settlement Elementary; the two schools will share a bus loop, full-size kitchen and recreational facilities. It is that spirit of innovative collaboration which continues to generate education success stories in Osceola County.

On Wednesday, I traveled to Baker County to attend the grand opening of the new Macclenny Elementary School. Earlier in the year, Macclenny Elementary was selected as one of the "Lucky 13" schools to participate in the Florida Reading Initiative. Baker County School District Superintendent Paula Barton has said that having "all children reading at grade level throughout the district" is her main focus. That kind of commitment will ensure that every child receives a year's worth of knowledge in a year's time.

The grand opening of these two schools comes on the heels of key legislation passed earlier this year. In May, I signed a bill to ensure that communities and schools plan together to keep schools from becoming overcrowded. And for the first time, school planning in Florida is being incorporated with growth management. Through interlocal agreements, local governments and school boards are now working together to locate new schools where needed, revitalize inner-city schools, establish new schools with community based activities in mind, and maximize taxpayer dollars through sharing of facilities with parks and libraries.

Have a wonderful school year!

Sincerely, Jeb Bush

ABOUT HAVING A WONDERFUL SCHOOL, GOVERNOR BUSH MEANS IT... Thank you, Jeb.
