I know very little about international shipping but I have been wondering about a scenario that didn't make sense to me...

I work for a company on the opposite shore of Mich...The parent company is in Belgium...This company is in the process of receiving a machinery line from Belgium and the machinery is coming by way of Canada...

Not only could the parent company have shipped the machines to a US port and then trucked it on in, but they also could have run it aboard ship thru the Great Lakes to a Freshwater port not more than 15 minutes from here...

Just something I've been wondering about...

a U.S. government sensor detected an unauthorized shipment of radioactive material

Officials say it is impossible to tell exactly what the radioactive material was. It could be an unregistered shipment of heavy-duty construction or medical equipment that uses radioactive material; there is even the possibility that the detection devices raised a false alarm.

If I understand the technology correctly, another possibility is the sensor detected the shipment of a nuclear device. I assume a nuke would register on the detection devices.
