A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 7/31/02

President Bush, while meeting with his cabinet, denounced the attack against Israel that killed seven and injured 80 people at the Hebrew University cafeteria. He issued a statement on America's current economic growth -- not as strong as he would like, but showing strong signs within the new Department of Commerce report (echoed by some private forecasters) that there will be growth of three to five percent, rather than the 1.1 percent for the spring quarter just past.

Bush met privately with Rudy Guliani, who was in the DC area to give a speech.

Ari Fleischer noted at his press briefing that 60 presidential nominees are awaiting confirmation in the Senate, among them: the Deputy Secretary of Energy; FEMA's Deputy Director; NASA's Deputy Administrator; the Office of Management and Budget Deputy Director; 29 foreign policy nominees (some for critical functions); and of course, judicial nominees. He noted that yesterday Daschle "made a commitment" (undefined by Ari) to the President about the nominations on hold and that some Senate members now are objecting to the commitment.

We're a little light on photos today.

I like this quote by Ari

"Washington is just a silly town where people sometimes don't let a good man have a vacation without making more of it than it is."

I hope Crawford, Texas, spontaneously combusts as soon as the media gets there.

And the Dems want Medicaid to administer any drug programs?

They LOVE those civil service jobs, don't they?

Since there aren't a lot of presidential photos tonight, I thought I'd spice things up by posting a photo a friend took recently while we took our evening exercise walk on the Seattle waterfront. Wish I could add the scent of salt air ...

Well...er...I don't actually REMEMBER your having said that, Miss M., but I believe it.

Tell me, do you know how Rudi did with the unions in NYC? Probably extremely well since he cleaned up the city beautifully. Homeland Security is going to have LOTS of trouble with unions if the Dems get their way.

I honestly don't remember. But he did clean up the city, so I'd bet he mad SOMEBODY mad......LOL.

I would LOVE to see Tom Daschle criticize Rudy about Homeland. Man, I'd PAY to see that!

And when I disappeared at the same time as homeschool mama and admiralsn, here's where I was one of the days.

That's the northern tip of the Olympic Mountains, across Admiralty Inlet in Puget Sound.

Hey, I'm just doing my bit to get ready for the President's vacation!

I'm kinda tired from fighting a lot the past few days. This is such an oasis!
Thank you, GRETCHEN!!! You are doing a fantastic job!!

Interesting combination with the blue shirt, and the light green tie. As a believer in the blue eyed theory, I'll have to admit that the President's eyes look awfully green in this picture!

Thanks for doing the dose, Gretchen.

Sorry I couldn't see your seafront picture. I could use some sea air, it's very hot here, but it is Texas in (almost) August.

Bernard Kerik can't be far behind, if Rudy's been selected for somethin. Ok I'm hoping he's not far behind.
