Locke argued that you can temporarily or permanently forfeit a right based on your behavior. You can forfeit your right to life by murdering someone. You can temporarily forfeit your right to own a gun by commiting a violent crime and thus being sent to prison. Oh wait, sorry, you don't believe that people have rights.
