It seems to me that if he were dead somebody would have dragged in his putrid remains to claim the $25mill.

A true Bin Laden video appearance would give his followers and sympathizers a psychological boost. That is unless he is so injured or disease ridden that his appearance may actually demoralize his faithful.
The fact that he has not been seen for months tells me that he is either dead or is in pretty bad shape.

They might not be able to get the heavy equipment needed to dig up the several thousand tons of mountain on top of him.

It seems to me that if he were dead somebody would have dragged in his putrid remains to claim the $25mill.Looking at the FBI wanted web page on bin Laden (http://www.fbi.gov/mostwant/topten/fugitives/laden.htm), it does not appear to me to be a dead or alive type of reward. However, it does seem likely anyway that you are right -- someone would try to claim the reward, or, more likely, would brag that they were not claiming it, thus showing their loyalty to the cause. If bin Laden died without his followers quickly announcing it, that would be one of the most bizarre endings to the life of a historical figure on record. I figure that bin Laden is laying low out of humiliation over not having a big follow-up to 9/11 yet, and is planning to let his deeds speak for him next.
The story at the head of this thread is a little strange. Why are these officials just leaking this now when they captured the bodyguards in February? And why would bin Laden's son know his whereabouts, and be willing to tell his captors about it, any more than would the bodyguards? I don't suppose our side uses truth serum. Maybe, on non-uniformed combatants, we should.

When you send hundreds of other subhumans off to meet the 72 small boys most favored by the islamanazi's sexually repressed lumpen Osamajugend, it is assumed you know you are automatically also a candidate in America's new game, "Who Wants To Be A Million Air Particles."

Unless, however, he was virtually vaporized. Especially if the only ones who saw his death were his terror buds---I doubt they would have either the inclination nor the time (with the bombs falling) to go find pieces of OBL in the rubble.
