...Not Karl Marx, not Groucho Marx, but a guy named W. Gauthier Marx. He's promoting himself as an alternative to Jeb Bush and Janet Reno in the Florida governor's race. Some alternative: he wants to be elected Dictator for Life, and says he plans to unify Florida and Cuba into one territory...

KEYWORDS:
Mr. Marx (if he is not merely a fictional creation of the
Subversive Intellectual Society) first announced his "candidacy" two months ago, with
this speech.
This was followed recently by the announcement that
a fellow named Maxx Klaxon would be his running mate. Will Klaxon serve as Lieutenant Governor, then? No, his job title will be
Reichsmarshall, or maybe
People's Commissar for State Control.
Marx and his pals can't seem to decide whether they are communists or fascists. But whatever their politics, they apparently don't shy away from hardball tactics: now they are
claiming responsibility for the crash of a FedEx plane in Tallahassee on Friday. (This story comes with a disclaimer that it's a parody. It also comes with a couple of potshots at Florida Secretary of State
Katherine Harris.)
The Florida political scene seems to be getting weirder and weirder... fringe candidates from Buchanan to Nader are getting increasing numbers of votes. Someone is even trying to run
a dog against Ms. Harris in her bid for Congress. Will Marx's bizarre campaign -- probably nothing more than a PR stunt of some kind -- actually attract a few write-in votes in November? We've seen before that people will vote for all kinds of bad ideas, so it's entirely possible...

When I saw the headline I wondered, Hmmmmm, would that be Harpo, Chico, Groucho, or Zeppo?

I think maybe a combination of all of them. And definitely some Karl too.
Maybe a little Fidel on the side, si?
