I am amazed that you rationalize the frequency of this sort of crime, commonplace now, as just a thing that all societies have to deal with. As if it is a part of all societies, all eras, all countries.
I completely reject the belief that this sort of crime occurred with any frequency in the 1940s, but that there was just incomplete reporting of the crimes on the radio back then. LOL.
Talk to old people. They will tell you that things are really going down the tubes. It is not just "sampling bias" because we now have 24/7 news.
This sort of permissiveness and denial of real societal deterioration, is what got us into this situation in the first place.
