Society benefits when the rule of law is enforced. Yes, it does. And in a free society the when the law becomes arbitrary and capricious, it becomes unenforceable. Laws based on lies and misinformation become unenforceable when people learn the truth, and hold the law in contempt.

Okay even if you generally don't like stoners( I don't) the WOD ain't worth the money.

Are you suggesting that these people are idiots ?
Yes Escaping reality through drugs is an idiotic thing to do and a waste

Society benefits when the rule of law is enforced. "What is your definition of justice?"
"Justice, Elijah, is that which exists when all the laws are enforced."
Fastolfe nodded. "A good definition, Mr. Baley, for a robot.... A human being can recognize the fact that, on the basis of an abstract moral code, some laws may be bad ones and their enforcement unjust. What do you say, R. Daneel?"
"An unjust law," said R. Daneel evenly, "is a contradiction in terms."

Yes, it is, and I hate it when people abuse alcohol because they want to escape reality. Despite that, alcohol remains legal. Now why is that?

I'd like to see an argument why it is better for society to legalize yet another drug. And don't assume that the problems with current legal drugs (ie. alcohol) would go away.I can't quote you statistics but I am sure that very few people die of overdoses using marijuana. I have never seen a report which details how many DUIs are issued for being under the influence of marijuana. I have never read of a wild person, after having smoked MJ, who has grabbed a gun and gone out and started shooting people. As a matter of fact, I cannot ever remember any story of people who have been violent after using MJ.
A lot of people who use legal prescription drugs have committed crimes of violence against society but I guess that is okay because the drugs they use are legal and produce corporate profits and political contributions.
We have had over 20 years of the WOD and the damage to our society that is has done. The reason that we should legalize MJ is that the cost to society, in monies, in mores and in destruction of lives, is far greater by keeping it illegal. The cost is just too great to keep people from smoking a weed that is less harmful than cigarettes.

....and a friend of mine saw his daughter seriously injured because she was speeding, high on weed, and lost control of the car she was driving. So what's your point?
To: WyldKard
So by your logic, you only obey the laws you agree with?
But I do like the way you elevated the argument to a State Sovereignty issue: "This isn't about legalizing pot for us dopers, it's about State's rights!"
Bwahahahahaha!

but I like sandwiches like that! Sure, they're high in cholesterol, but I have ample life insurance...
To: WyldKard
Dont know i dont do either i experimented when i was young and found out the more i did the less i liked it it ends up contrlloing you instead of you controlling it
Lets see we have people who are drunks on social security because they claim its a disease so whats next pot smokers on social security because its deemed a deaease ?
Why do we have to keep paying for people who wish to make theirselves idiots ?

5) It would knock the legs out from under the gangs that are destroying the inner cities, by denying them funding. Prohibition made Al Capone. The WOD has made the crips and bloods. If there ever were a serious movement to legalize drugs the strongest voices against it would be from the inner city gangs.

the response isn't either black or white, there are many shades of grey. That moral grayness makes perfect shadows for Democrats to breed in.

I can't quote you statistics but I am sure that very few people die of overdoses using marijuana. The correct answer is "none" or "no people".

Have you ever exceeded the speed limit? Even once?
But I do like the way you elevated the argument to a State Sovereignty issue: "This isn't about legalizing pot for us dopers, it's about State's rights!"
So you think that State Rights are a joke, and that the Federal Government is completely justified in violating the Constitution in their attempt to regulate a drug no harmful than alcohol, and causing more problems than they fix in the process?
Interesting. You must have been very comfortable at DU. I don't understand why a Socialist like you would have ever left.
