The sad thing was that he knew he was insane and prone to these rages, and genuinely wished to mend - but obviously couldn't. Great post. Another tidbit - there is also some unsubstantiated opinions that Stalin was poisoned. At any rate, I have read that on his deathbed, his staff thought it safer to let him die that revive him.
