Check out the video links to see the bats swarm in a cave,
and a hawk swooping in for dinner among the bats.

"The vampire bat's saliva attacks clotting cells and turns them into liquid," Dr. Medellín said. "And it doesn't have any side effects."

True. Just ask this satisfied customer ...

I'm in north central Oklahoma and just put up a small bat house -- Do the bats really like the man-made bat houses? Does anyone know how long it will take a bat to find it?

I got "batted" the other night walking along the river..

I heard this little "neeth, neeth" bat noise and it landed on my head. Nasty things..

If you are ever camping in bat infested area though, take some marshmellows (sp, I know) and toss them up in the air and watch them just dissappear into the darkness.

We are trying to rescue the tequila industry using the bats, stopping poaching and creating bat-friendly tequila stamps for alcohol labels," said Dr. Medellín, a bat researcher at the Institute of Ecology, National University of Mexico.

Not unlike dolphin-safe tuna? The tuna just never tasted the same after they took the dolphin out of it! Although, I guess the fact that bats aren't an ingredient in the tequila is enough to get me to support the effort.

It's cool watching the flying rats chasing bugs at night but I do draw the line when they enter the house then their a$$ is mine. Last year we had 5 bats in the house in a 4 month period. I gotta tell you, I'm amazed at how good my aim got swinging a broomstick. FWAAAAAAAAAAP! They can flatten themselves down like mice and get into surprisingly small holes. Mosquitos are the big pest problem up my way and the bats eat a bunch so as long as they stay out of the house, they're ok by my book.
