Did you listen to Samantha's beautiful Mother on Larry King last night?

She said the same thing you just posted. She doesn't think it is normal to not allow a child to play outside their own home, in their own neighborhood, and does not blame herself, or her Mother. She said people can't live in fear and keep their children locked up.

This was a tragic, random act of Evil...was her opinion.

I don't watch Larry King- I have enough stress without that! It just seems to me that it is unrealistic to expect 24-7 care of a child. It is not normal, it does not teach a child how to solve their own problems, and it only helps them learn that the big bad world is something to be scared of. Kids will be hurt. I do not have any experience raising little girls. I don't claim to be a perfect parent, but I am dang proud of my boys. My oldest can get hit in a football game and pop right up. My 5 and 3 year olds are able to cope with scrapes and cuts without hysterics. The kids that are constantly pampered tend to react with great dramatics.

I realize that these are generalizations, but in my experience they are true. Children that are ALLOWED to get hurt and TRUSTED to behave when they are not obviously supervised will get along better as adults.

The father today went to go PEE for cryin out loud! Yes, there was a freak in the house. But if you were staying with a friend (and I don't mean you specifically SW) and they had their brother sleeping on the couch (not some dumpster diving bum) to say you would go stay in a hotel or sit and guard the child all night with a shotgun is ridiculous.

I am heart broken every time I hear about something like this, BUT I am also realistic in my judgement of the parents. If the dad had, for instance, invited the b@$%ard to share his daughter's bed I would hold him very responsible. He went PEE. Do not blame the rape victim, blame the sick @*&% that carries out the action.

I need to wrap this post up, I am starting to resort to the SHIFT key to much.

No offense to her, God only knows how she is suffering, but I tend to disagree with that. There are a lot of things that we as a society should be able to do, but we are living in different times and precautions we never would have had to take yrs ago, now need to be taken. We should be allowed to walk down streets at night and not fear for our lives etc. but we cannot.

More people are getting alarm systems installed in their homes than ever before. So, you see, we DO have to take more steps and not exactly lock our children up, but we DO have to take more drastic steps of watching our children, they are worth more to us than our Valuable, jewels, money etc that we take steps to protect.
