Tin Foil Hat ON.
I believe that this rash of hot and heavy coverage of missing childrens' cases is no accident.
I haven't commented thus far, but I have to predict that all of this coverage is to fuel the fire of any parent's worst fear and to accelerate the microchipping program that is already in the works.
I fully expect the Digital Angel chip to be heavily advertised and pushed by the media as the "best way to protect your child" since it can locate them just minutes after abductions take place, thus sparing any possibility of their molestation and/or death.
Tin foil hat OFF.
That said, I hope she is found safe and quickly!!

What I'm trying to figure out is if, all of a sudden, kids are being snatched. I would think, from all the missing kids reports that this stuff happens every day. Is it that the national media has just started to cover it since the van dam case?

As soon as I saw your "Tinfoil Hat ON" line the same thought about Digital Angel popped into my head. I think you may be on to something.
That said, I pray that this little girl is found quickly and that she is unharmed.

There may be some small truth to your tinfoil speculation...but I also believe that "networking" and getting information out ASAP can help find the perp quickly.
The media combined with the public in the area can lead to a rescue and arrest.

I would not put it past the media. Local media here has turned into mush. Stories on health foods, loads of weather, health walks, testing new gadgets (I have noticed from my web links page I have to tv news stations that they all test the same gadget and review it at the same time), and filling us with 80%+ fluffy stuff. It's a lot like smart cards - the board members on the companies that make smart cards are also members of the boards of companies implementing them the quickest...
Here is the link to my site, browse through some of the stations and see how much crap there is on 'news' stations. As a side note, the site will be overhauled in August with ratings, affiliate info, clean up some inks, etc.

You're gettin close! How much local coverage of animal chip implants have you all noticed? I've see it discussed at least twice in the past month.

Damned good point and worth consideration. Is it more abductions taking place? Or just more media coverage? Perhaps we are being groomed? But I dont think Digital Angel is the answer, ZERO TOLERANCE and Death to Pedophiles is the answer.
Anybody touches my daughter and you people will be reading about me in the news, I will go completely medieval on all pedophiles in my county , and I know where the bastards live. Our police department keeps the webpage updated on theeir locations and houses quite frequently.

I have been thinking along those lines for a while now - It's just a matter of time.

Oh boy, that's an issue that's been worrying me since I heard it being pushed on some radio talk show last week. I was astounded to hear that the host was actually recommending that children be implanted with this device.
What about instead doing something about all the perps that are set free after little time in prison for their earlier offenses? The creeps who do this stuff are never cured.
Why should everyone else have to suffer (be implanted and tracked) just so we can let these morons walk among the rest of us?
I'm really ticked off by this.

I'm seeing a trend in these reports. Seems that many of these kids come from broken homes. Parents divorced, etc. Do you notice this?

As someone here at FR has already said, child kidnapping needs to be made into a capital offense.

You are probably right. I hadn't thought about it and really don't want to! But I also think there are several more factors at work. 1) We are hearing more about all abductions in the country, a legacy of the Smart case. In the end, that is good. 2) But a downside of the media attention is that it probably helps motivate potential perps to think "I could do this better. And I'll get away with it."

Tin Foil Hat ON. You are full of it. The non-suspect was seen coming out of the nearby Meramec River completely sopping wet. There are several police copters circling overhead. All appearances are that she is gone ...

I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing the other day.
In Boston one of the radio guys was suggesting just that, "Well, we do it to pets, why not our children ?"
To: RMDupree
Just read a letter to the editor in the Miami Herald today. "Can we not implement a national-identification, chip-implant program to register children to help prevent them from being abducted?"
