Atlanta (AP) -- U.S. Representative Cynthia McKinney said her radio campaign ad comparing her challenger to an angry, out-of-control cop is not an unfair attack ad because it targets the judicial record that the opponent has touted in her own ads.
Campaign manager Bill Banks said the radio spots, which accuse former DeKalb County judge Denise Majette of abusing her authority, are not negative.
Banks said in a number of cases, Majette's record indicates she took actions that were harsh and vindictive.
He said, "What we're trying to do is get people's attention to her abuse of power."
McKinney's campaign referred to a 1998 case in which Majette sentenced a woman who had been convicted of speeding in a jury trial to two days in jail and fined her one-thousand dollars. The sentence was later vacated by a higher court.
The ad says, "Abuse of power is sometimes an angry, out-of-control cop beating up a teenager in California. Sometimes it's an angry, out-of-control judge like Denise Majette."
Majette spokesman Bob Doyle said McKinney's charges are exactly the sort of over-the-top comments that people have come to expect from Cynthia McKinney.
Doyle said, "She divides, practices slash-and-burn politics and sacrifices her credibility in Washington. That's why Denise is running."
McKinney seems to be making the same mistakes as Hilliard, and that's fine by me. CAIR is also pushing for donations to McKinney's campaign, and I found that from previous threads on her. What with her ties to the Nation of Islam (she writes a guest column for Final Call), and has accepted campaign donations from Abdurahman Alamoudi and some of his friends, from this thread (and I'll dig out the other links, if you need them).
When Abdurahman Alamoudi, friend and sometime adviser on Islamic affairs to Hillary Rodham Clinton, stood before a Muslim crowd in Lafayette Park across from the White House this week and passionately declared his support for the terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah, he was revealing the true face of "moderate" Islam. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/722854/posts?page=20#20
Bye Bye Cynnnnnnnnnnthia.
I know lots of folks who are gonna fight and stand on street corners to get this Dem***** out of our hair.
