The New Deal was driven electorally by the immigrants who came here after the last huge wave of immigration at the end of the 19th and early 20th century. It took 2 generations before these groups (Italians, Irish, etc) to move up and into the Republican party (and these groups didn't have the additional barrier of race...which may well slow down the transition for our current immigrant waves).
Twenty straight years of a democrat in the white house, and about 50 years of democrat dominance of the House of Representatives.....thats what resulted from the last wave.
Tragically, the gimmies are on the march, and the party of the gimmies has rigged the demographics to ensure their future dominance.
So, 20 years from now, we may have a Presidential Election as close as the one we saw in 2000. The difference will be that the Democrats are running a 2020 equivalent of Al Sharpton while the Republicans are running a 2020 equivalent of Liddy Dole.
Either way, America continues to go to hell in handbasket. The real doo-doo hits the fan in 2050, when you know what occurs (hint for those who don't know: demographics).
Tragically, the gimmies are on the march, and the party of the gimmies has rigged the demographics to ensure their future dominance.
I fear this is accurate. Eventually we will have another Carter, and we will have double digit inflation/interest rates/unemployment, "malaise," ass kissing leftist (and/or islamist) dictators, the whole bit. Maybe even another energy policy centered on wearing sweaters. Will there be a Reagan or a Maggie Thatcher around to reform that mess, to rally the producers and stand down the gimmees, or will the next time around lead to a long slow slide to eventual third-world status?
And Jorge Bush is doing everything he can with his open borders agenda to help the Socialists in this march.
