How interesting coming from one of the guys who helped grease the CIA's skid into fecklessness. Can we ask him about assigning a few aggressive case officers into the region and how the information they unearth might come to the attention of the powers that can act on it?

The Bush Administration should take steps Now that put us on a war footing in an overt way:
Conscription for all aged 18-35; mandatory 1 year of service to the country, with service including non-military activity.
"War-time" federal tax on gasoline and airline fuel
Mandatory establishment of Neighborhood Watches
Heavy promotion of War Bonds
Other ideas?

Other ideas? Cut national speed limit to 30mph. Ration gasoline. Why not just general mobilization.

Did I sleep through World War III? I missed a World War? I hope we won it.

"His general support of terrorism is enough," Woolsey concluded, pointing to the dictator's cease-fire violations, the testimony of defectors describing hijack training within Iraq, the meetings of the former Iraqi ambassador to Turkey with al-Qaeda members, and the Czech intelligence service's repeated public reports of meetings with bomber Mohamed Atta in Prague. Interesting rationale. I guess the U.S. is going to go after Saddam Hussein after it topples the Saudi government, along with the governments of almost every nation on the Arabian peninsula.

Convert all mosques in the U.S. into neighborhood munitions depots, so that ordinary U.S. citizens can rally to the nation's defense at a moment's notice.
Seriously -- until this happens, you'll never convince me that this country has any intention of fighting a "war."

It didn't take Clinton long to discover his mistake. Woolsey could never get a meeting with Clinton.

And this guy was appointed by Clinton. I wonder how that happened?Bad intelligence? :-)

He was forced on Clinton. Clinton's choice was Tony Lake, IIRC.

I used to run a BBS on WWIV, or "World War Four" software. This was ages ago, before the advent of the Web. I wonder if that's what he's talking about?
