Still on the Islamic front, one of the Prophet Mohammed's visions was that people who were cruel to animals would be sentenced to hell. The spirits of the dogs and cats they starved would then be allowed to visit them there, and bite and scratch them. A satisfying notion! But back then (I notice) the worst type of cruelty was starving an animal. Now we have torture and photography of the crimes. Awful.
