If the occupation was the cause of terrorism, why was terrorism sparse during the years of actual occupation, why did it increase dramatically with the prospect of the end of the occupation, and why did it escalate into open war upon Israel's most far-reaching concessions ever?

Excellent question. To bad so few are asking it.

I lived in Jerusalem in the 1970's. Back then it was perfectly safe to walk through straight through the Arab shouk in the Old City. All the Arab shopkeepers were making money as never before, and welcomed Israeli and Western customers. They were far more prosperous under Israeli "occupation" than they had been under Jordanian rule.

In 1948, we became subject to a grave historical injustice manifested in a dual victimization: on the one hand, the injustice of dispossession, dispersion, and exile forcibly enacted on the population.

And it wasn't the Israelis that displaced them.
It was their own Arab 'brethren'.
