I love how everyone blames us for LBJ, Carter, and Clinton. Folks need to remember that we here in the South have Black populations approaching 40% in many states and they will vote large and overwhelmingly Dem. Whites in the South have to more or less match the monolithic pattern of black voting in an opposite fashion to insure a Pubbie carrying the state. No doubt these scalawags were borne of the South but the black vote got them the electoral votes from here. It took white liberal votes in the blue zones to make it a fait accompli.

So how about FDR getting 70% + of the votes in Dixie four times straight back when blacks weren't even allowed to sit at a lunch counter let alone vote?

The South loves Federal pork more than any other region and FDR was the pork massser.

That was in the time period when the aftermath of Reconstruction still had the South in serious hatred of the Pubbies and that didn't change till the early 70s when white southerners to their chagrin noticed that the Dems were by then the party of social engineering. I'm not proud that we supported FDR but the South was hardly the only area. In the case of LBJ, Carter, and Clinton...the black vote in the South is the primary reason those cretins took a number of Southern states. I actually think Goldwater may have taken a couple of Southern states...I know Nixon took more than a few. By 1972, the South was well on it's way to predominately White Republicanism.
