He needs some time off and he needs the emotional refreshing he always gets from time on the ranch.
I've absolutely no problem with him going to Crawford in August, it's people's perception of him that worries me. The markets are tanking badly, trillions of dollars are being wiped out, people are losing their savings, I just don't think it's a good idea to leave town for a month, the market won't go up just because he's DC, but it sure wouldn't hurt.

The President does not control Wall Street and what is going on and it doesn't matter whether he is in DC, Crawford or on the moon
This is a bubble we all knew was due to burst .. but IMHO once we get pass this .. I think the markets will be even stronger

The markets are tanking badly, trillions of dollars are being wiped out, people are losing their savings, I just don't think it's a good idea to leave town for a monthOne very important characteristic that you've obviously missed about President Bush, is that he does nothing because of people's "perception" of him, so he's not going to stay in DC because of what he fears people might think of him, or fears losing a point or two in the polls (which IMO, is not going to happen).
I've read through your comments on O'Neil and his competency, and though I don't understand the details of what's going on (I'm a music teacher!), I do know that one of President Bush's other strengths is his ability to choose brilliant people to work with, and his ability to manage well. I choose to trust his MBA management skills, and prefer for him to have people around him whom he trusts, rather than people who have a better image in your eyes.
