Update from OC Sheriff... Press conference..

Playing 911 tape of the people that found the body, male caller was extremely upset, and scared, he was crying, and telling 911 the location but the cell phone transmission was breaking up and was disconnected.

They called the telephone number he left before the disconnect and they called his home and got a messege machine. He called back within minutes and made contact again with 911 and was almost hysterical and crying saying it was little girl and was very distraught,

When Cell caller got home he called again from home phone and recontacted 911, 911 said they would pick him up and the he could show him where the body was.

Press conference continues, stating over 2000 citizens have given leads......

At 955 AM they made an arrest alihondro avial DOB 3-1375

Joe, I'm listening to the evening press conference congratulating everyone on what is certainly a benchmark in law enforcement. While the operation was a success, I can't help but feel the outcome was less than hoped for. I wish more than three of those who spoke would have expressed some frustration or grief that "the patient died."

Forgive me, but I'm still grieving for the loss, and I recognize I'm being uncharitable given their lack of sleep and long hours. My prayers for their continued diligence are with them. My prayers for Samantha's family will be going out for a long, long time.

Can you believe that? The guy just said he was 100% sure this guy did this horrible crime, and some newschick is concerned about how they detained the bastard. Only in America.

I have to say that I'm impressed. Instead of sitting around twiddling their thumbs and playing politics with other jurisdictions, they actually pooled all available resources and collectively focused on the task at hand. Amazing how that can work. They are an outstanding example to other law enforcement agencies around the country.

I'm sorry, I just can't share you enthusiam.The "law enforcement community" did nothing more than what they are freaking paid to do. My stomach is turning as I watch this "press conference". It is nothing but a damned bunch of bureaucrats making sure that they all get to share the limelight.

What disgusts me most is their TOTAL ignoring of the one person who solved this crime. That is the little traumatized 5 year old playmate of Samantha. Without her fantastic recollection of the identification of the perp and the car, "law enforcement" would still be chasing their tails. Why in the hell can't these bureaucrats give her at least one sentence of credit? Do they really need to hog it all?

There was some law enforcement official interviewed on Fox yesterday that said it could be expedited significantly by having the FBI forensics team and a lab on location rather than having to send DNA evidence to Washington for analysis.

After taking into consideration the similarities of the dumping site and conditions both bodies were found in, age of victims, and the close distance between the two victims and the suspect. Not to mention the alleged "phone tip" on the 26th of Feb. that led searchers to Danielle's body.
I believe it would be highly negligent for law enforcement to not be investigating the possibilities. Also, Danielle's body was found too late to be able to compare DNA or to know if she too had been "posed" after death. A killer that poses a body in that manner gets a strong feeling of power knowing that someone will view his actions.
He was denied that in Danielle's case and I believe that is why he acted out again so rashly and quickly, because the "act" was not complete, he could not go back into "normal mode" and live out the fantasy of his act over and over in his head.
Sorry about the rant but he seems to be very typical serial killer material and before he ever became a killer he probably molested too many children for me to want to even consider.

Yes, they WERE doing their job and that seems to be fairly rare in this day and age, but I think what impressed me is the level of cooperation between everyone involved, not the least of whom were the little girlfriend of Samantha and the ex-girlfriend of Avila who tipped them off about him.
