Just for the record, winnipeg, there are a lot of non-Christian conservatives on FR. I am a Jewish woman and, while I do not agree with everyone on everything here, I do enjoy finding other Jews with similar views to mine. Jews in this country are largely liberal for some reason, although it is markedly against their interests on all fronts. And, of course, you know that the US population is extremely diverse.

Our language is English. Those coming to this country only have to learn one language. We should not have to learn 20 to understand our neighbor.

I have never seen one, but I'd love to have an intelligent estimate of how much our economy owes to our common language. In other words, by what percentage would our economy decline if half our country spoke one language and half another, with little understanding between them? It is difficult enough to achieve understanding with everyone speaking the same language. One of the reasons we are great is that everyone who has come has adopted English, at least by the second generation.

"Here's the absurdity of winnipeg's "logic" taken to its extreme. Is this lady who she says she is? GRRRR!"

How do we even know it's a she? Could be OBL under that hood. Walk into a gas station or convenient store that's been robbed a few time with that get-up on and see what happens. How does anyone know what's under there.

You get no argument from me. I support your comments 100% especially when it comes to Muslims. I was referring to the essay in which no mention of home grown America bashers is made. And I was referring to the grateful America loving immigrants I know.

FWIW, here is a published version by the ORIGINAL AUTHOR, as posted on http://www.vietnow.com/artbar1.htm.

(For an interesting history of this e-mail, see also http://www.snopes2.com/rumors/american.htm.)

From the VietNow National Magazine

At a high school in Oklahoma, school officials remove “God Bless America” signs from schools in fear that someone might be offended.
At a Long Island, New York television station, management orders flags removed from the newsroom, and red, white, and blue ribbons removed from the lapels of reporters. Why? Management did not want to appear biased, and felt that our nation’s flag might give the appearance that “they lean one way or another.”
Officials in a California city ban U.S. flags from being displayed on city fire trucks because they didn’t want to offend anyone in the community.
In an “act of tolerance,” the head of the public library at a Florida university ordered all “Proud To Be an American” signs removed so as to not offend international students.

Politically Correct Attacks Against America
I, for one, am quite disturbed by these actions of so-called “American citizens”; and I am tired of this nation worrying about whether or not we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on September 11th, we have experienced a surge of patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled in New York and Washington, DC when the “politically correct” crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. In fact, our country’s population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants; however, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some native-born Americans, need to understand.

If You’re Among the Politically Correct, Here’s What You Need to Know
First of all, it is not our responsibility to continually try not to offend you in any way. This idea of America being a multi-cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language, and our own lifestyle. This culture, called the “American Way” has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. Our forefathers fought, bled, and died at places such as Bunker Hill, Antietam, San Juan Hill, Iwo Jima, Normandy, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf, for our way of life.
We speak English, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn our language!

And Yes, We Do Trust in God
“In God We Trust” is our national motto. This is not some off-the-wall, Christian, right wing, political slogan. It is our national motto. It is engraved in stone in the House of Representatives in our Capitol, and it is printed on our currency. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation; and this is clearly documented throughout our history. If it is appropriate for our motto to be inscribed in the halls of our highest level of government, then it is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools.

If God Offends You, Here’s What to Do
God is in our pledge, our National Anthem, nearly every patriotic song, and in our founding documents. We honor His birth, death, and resurrection as holidays, and we turn to Him in prayer in times of crisis. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture, and we are proud to have Him.

It’s Our Heritage
We are proud of our heritage and those who have so honorably defended our freedoms. We celebrate Independence Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Flag Day. We have parades, picnics, and barbecues where we proudly wave our flag. As an American, I have the right to wave my flag, sing my national anthem, quote my national motto, and cite my pledge whenever and wherever I choose. If the Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don’t like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.

This is Our Culture – If You Don’t Like It You’re Free to Go Elsewhere
The American culture is our way of life, our heritage, and we are proud of it. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don’t care how you did things where you came from. We are Americans. Like it or not, this is our country, our land, and our lifestyle.
Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion about our government, culture, or society, and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American freedom, the right to leave!

"If someone wants to live here with a "sack" on their head that's their business"

Not when it interferes with the norms of the society she is currently in.

And why do we have to make special dispensations with female officers. What if there aren't any around.
This coverup and license is such crap. MOST islamic countries require a passport or driver's license with the face uncovered, apart from such earthly paradises like Saud. She has the privilege to drive; to attain that pprivilege, she has to show her face for id purposes.

A TOTALLY reasonable and rational point of view; but reasonableness and rationality are not the islamist troublemakers point of view, are they, unless of course it helps their accursed cause to dominate the world.

Most immigrants I know are more conservative than any of us. The real danger to this country has always been from within that is from American born traitors.

You can say that again. BUMP

This American was born in America. I never truly appreciated America until I met my husband who came out of Castro's Cuba. And he loves America and the American people. And he became a true American. He's forgetting the Spanish language. He votes (Conservative) and even before 9/11 hung the American Flag every morning. You, PieroC, remind me of him. You are the type of immigrants America needs. God Bless you and God Bless America.

Looks like the Loudermilks are German immigrants who came to America in the 1700's. Just an FYI.

Every single individual living in our great country who hates our culture and way of life has Right to leave, but USA will not recover and prosper again until we MAKE all foreign and domestic scumbags who came here to despice, hate and harm us TO GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!

Thank you for your kind words.
Congratulations for having the fortitude to marry a man that probably has significant different habits than yours. My American wife picked me up on an foreign beach many years ago, and brouhgt me to America. Our cultural differences where a sorce of entertainment, education, and happiness, for all the time we had togheter. Eventually she was recalled before me. I Hope you are having a similar glorious relationship with your Cuban born husband.

Thanks for the advice. Nevertheless, this article is nothing to light off Roman candles over. I've seen just as good in high school or junior college newspapers as "Letters to the Editor." Article written poorly although the general points are valid.

The U.S. was created by reasonably learned men with european, mostly English, traditions.

They established a country, imperfect but clearly intended, based on those traditions and on their beliefs that (a) they would never fully enjoy those traditions as a far away colony, and (b) with a new, republican, voluntarily joined, nation, they could do them better.

They spoke English for the most part and English as a business and governmental language.
They adapted English common law rather than Napoleonic.
They either believed in a Judeo-Christian ethic and a common God to be worshiped as the individual (not the state) saw fit - or they were not convinced of the God aspect but trusted the ethics and morals of such belief.

Those distinctions, by the way, are what is missed in most god and country debates today. First, the state should not establish a relegion that suits it, as did a couple of european states and as the islamic "world" has proven, nor should it stand in the way of anyone peacefully (and harmlessly) practicing their beliefs. And, some founding fathers were agnostics, as by the way am I, but believed in their freedom of belief as well as that of others and certainly did NOT want a government imposing specific beliefs on them.

They believed that these things were important, valid, and would better the lives of any who lived under them.
That last part has caused some problems, as with the various indian tribes and certain once privately held sexual traits, but overall it remains valid today.

I'd guess that the standard belief within FR remains very close to those tenants today.

I should add, if anyone is still on this thread, that those are also the basic concepts, in addition to being damn glad to have got here and willing to defend the place against outside and internal enemies, that would make any immigrant welcome.
