I just checked - Nick posted early this morning - before I got the thread online, I think, and haven't seen him since. I wrote him Sunday that he was 'it' today though, so hopefully he'll be around to see his pings later this evening. : (

"just the thought that all these creatures of God are being killed because of stupid, inconsiderate people makes me very sad"
I agree. I was the volunteer treasurer of our local humane society until a few years ago. Spent many hours doing payroll, taxes but could not bring myself to visit the shelter because I knew how many dogs and pups would eventually be euthenized. We have a great spay/neuter program which is taking hold but there are still idiots who won't take advantage of it, think it's cute to have pups and kittens...and then just dump them.
In a perfect world local shelters would not have to euthanize but that's just not possible. It breaks the staffs hearts weekly and was the reason I finally got off the board.

Sounds so pretty! We have several trees, but I would love to have more of a variety, and live oak are our favorites here, but we have to get them from a nursery - they're not native.

Thank you so much for doing what you did, for as long as you could bear to do it.
God bless. I'll try to write more later.

.. there are still idiots who won't take advantage of it, think it's cute to have pups and kittens...and then just dump them. ..I agree. So many folks think it is a marvelous sight for their children to witness 'birth'. But, how many of those same parents will take their children to see the euthanasia later when no homes can be found? Or when the pup grows into a big dog?
No, there is not one who would do that.

John Madden was in Denver to announce a football game one weekend when he noticed a special phone near the Broncos' bench. He asked Coach Shanahan what it was for and was told it was a hotline to God.
John asked the coach if he could use it, and the coach said, "Sure, but it will cost you $100."
Madden scratched his head, then said, "What the heck, I need some help picking some games." He pulled out his wallet and paid the $100. Madden was perfect that week. The next weekend, Madden was in Seattle when he noticed the same kind of phone near the Seahawks bench.
He asked Coach Holmgren what the phone was for, and Mike said, "It's a hotline to God, and if you want to use it, it will cost you $100."
Recalling the previous week, Madden pulled out his wallet and gladly paid the $100. Once again, Madden was perfect.
The next weekend, Madden was in Dallas at Texas Stadium when he noticed the same phone near the Cowboy's bench. He asked Coach Gailey if it was a hotline to God.
The coach said, "Yes it is. Do you want to use it? It'll cost you 35 cents."
Madden looked at Gailey and said, "Wait a minute! I just paid $100 in Denver and $100 in Seattle to use the same phone! Why in Dallas do they only charge 35 cents?"
Gailey looked at Madden and replied very matter-of-factly, "In Texas, it's a local call."

Hey football season will start soon and I'm anxious to see how Fresno's David Carr does in Houston.

Easy to see that we're all on the same page with the proper care of God's creatures. Yes, we have dominion and all that stuff. But we are also accountable for our actions, or inactions in these matters.
Be very good stewards folks. Please.
