You are absolutely right, but they are just as valuable to the invidual in question. The person who converts on his deathbed usually laments his wasted life. That is true at any conversion, actually.

there are plenty of lifetime actions of good deeds too, if that is your main objection. Look at Mother Teresa, for an extreme example.
