If it was burned badly enough, killing was probably the most merciful option.

Feral cats around my home are getting the 'fix and release' treatment. No new kittens, and no voids for other ferals to move into.

They are releasing the cats again? - interesting. Not sure how to feel about that. Are you rural or city?

Cats around my home are trapped and taken to the country where coyotes (hopefully) eat them. Sometimes I shoot them. I hate cats.

You are right. As hard as it is sometimes killing an animal is best for them. I despise cats. But never kill them unless there is a justifiable reason to do so. This one would have been hard for me. I really don't like to kill anything. I grew up "close to the land" and have a very realistic view of tings like this as well as a huge respect for life. I am also an avid hunter.
